The issues are we now these animals as domesticated pets to which collectively we spend millions of pounds on their welfare. Whereas these people see them as cheap food without the need for expensive farming. The pictures are harsh and nothing deserves to live and die like that....

My chickens were very friendly
And more clever then you would think
Would wait at the Gate for me at night when I drove the car up my drive way and wait patiently as I used to give them crusts from my sandwiches
Would always go to their hen house at 7pm too as per routine
We used to farm and the cows were pretty tame too and would recognise you and come to the fence
Sheep generally were not so loyal too unless you hand reared them from lambs
Goats were very friendly
But third world countrys have a different culture to us

People in the western world have moved so far away from food production, animals and farming etc that they are seriously sensitive to such scenes.
Now I'm not suggesting for one moment that this sort of thing is acceptable, because even I find it quite abhorrent, but it's pretty normal in these countries and the people don't have the same sort of delicate sensibilities as many on here, because they see it all the time from being very young, it's just normal to them.
I was grape picking yesterday afternoon and the guy I was helping keeps goats among other animals, they follow him around and he strokes them and they all have names. So we finish grinding the grapes into pulp for wine making and go for something to eat and yep you guessed it, pet goat for dinner. he'd strung it up by the back legs and killed it that morning and we were tucking into it a few hours later, he's so proud of how good Josip tastes and what a nice sauce he made. Most on here would probably let the goat die of old age, as I write this there's a bit of josip in the freezer and he'll be turned into a nice goat curry at the weekend.
