So much for 9.1 clearing up the email issues. I still have to manually swipe from the left to remove the blue dot. Also, 2 identical emails, 1 into the native Apple app and the other forwarded from Gmail (essentially a copy), no longer stack as 2 emails.

I don't think there is any doubt that Apple are struggling and on that strength I did cancel my 6S order, for now at least. I'm contemplating ditching the iPads too and going another route but I can't see Android being the answer either.

Still not solved the backup issue with the iPad 3, and in the meantime I had the same problem with my 6S. The latter is currently working, however.

I don't see that issue, my mail is marked as read when I read it. Not sure what you mean by 2 identical emails, why do you want two copies?

I had an issue where Gmail would ask for authentication for no good reason every now and then, that seems to be cleared up.

I have every email address in the Apple app and likewise in Gmail. Select emails are simply forwarded from Gmail to Apple so it means opening one app only. In the past both emails appear one above the other once you open one of the emails showing in Apple. I do it because emails from Gmail are quicker than emails from Apple and also the occasional email has gone missing. Call it belt and braces if you like.

I also have the failed to collect email message very, very occasionally but annoying just the same. The authentication error cleared up for me too.

When my iPad 2 works better than my iPad Air2 something isn't right. (Extra features excluded of course).

Apple are struggling and with the latest update failing to deliver it doesn't look good.

I still don't quite understand, you have the Gmail App and the default Mail App both have all of your email addresses and you then forward the mails from... I'm lost.

Something definitely isn't right though, my Air 2 is a rocketship compared to an iPad 2, no comparison.

The set-up isn't the issue so it is unimportant. If we forget that altogether some emails still won't lose the blue dot without me swiping from the left and it is an ache of the *****.

And if any more sites require 2 clicks to open a thread I'm going to fart loudly!

why you have separete gmail app and mail app if you can add you account to the default mail app and you can have all your emails in one place.

That's fine, forwarding from one of them to the other that's odd. Might be setting up a loop.

Apologies, the emails aren't forwarded, just duplicated because I have Gmail configured in my Apple app for a couple of email addresses. The issue isn't the configuration as I can see exactly the view I had on an iPhone 4 and the old iPad 2.

The view change isn't a major problem just another step backwards. The blue dot remaining is an arséache however, so is the notification beep several seconds after the email arrives or indeed has been read or deleted.

Apple can't display certain images as an email attachment from my DVR and Google can. Then there are the reasons I explained above.

If they're IMAP accounts delete them and add them again, I had to do the same with mine somewhere along the line, I think for me it was my early adoption of two factor authentication which started to choke things up it may well be something different for you but it's a quick task that can make a big difference.
