Oh.

I'll get it from Chester Waitrose to give it a try. Not keen on Connahs Quay Morrison's as it's far too cakey for me. Wrexham Sainsbury's has a fast feel to it due to its brand colouring, and no, I don't want my car washed at the car park while I shop, either.

Shame Aldi don't sell it. Never mind.

I do, my mate James always names his coffee pots of a similar style so I named mine after him.

Cool.

What's the name you've given to your, you know, that metal melting gadget? That's one serious gadget, fair play. If it were mine, I'd call it Keith or Twisted Firestarta.

FAO moderators:

Can I request you to please put another 'l' as 'L' (not I) after first 'l' in the title of this thread. I made a mistake, and it's doing my head in, now.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,
No you are correct - we also noticed it now looks just like Nescafé gold blend - whereas before it was like finely ground coffee.
My wife drinks Milicano - but it is really expensive where we live (£8 per can!) - so we always but loads of the refill packs when we visit the UK and put them in a spare suitcase with the other things we can't get here - Birds custard powder, Birds trifle mixes, Oxo cubes, Garlic puree and a few other things!
Cheers
Steve

Goes to show how meaningful the texture of the consumables is, to us.

I used to drink Nescafé Original or Carte Noire Original Coffee at home; both in instant, granulated form. But there's no way I would compare them to Millicano, as the Millicano aroma, as soon as I pop the lid open just knocks me out! Absolutely puts the former two in utter shame! Millicano's smooth yet bitter aroma could be the reason why the texture, even when it may not be really any different to other granulated ones, becomes insignificant.

Now wait till James Taylor tells us that Millicano can't beat his special Columbian powder, which boots you so hard that you start circling around the earth with other NASA satellites on the mission!

I've tried most instant coffees, and for me the winner has to be NesCafe Azera espresso. You must make it with water that's just been boiled, mind, otherwise you don't get any froth on top (or crema or whatever they call it nowadays).

I also have a nespresso machine, and used to have a bosch tassimo. IMO the nespresso makes OK coffee, depending on what capsules you use, but I actually prefer Azera instant to almost all coffee pods.

I'm trying to persuade the Mrs to take the nespresso to work, so that I get some kitchen worktop space back, tbh, because after I discovered Azera, I just don't see the point of fancy coffee machines anymore.

For me the only coffee (available in supermarkets) I prefer to Azera is a Lavazza espresso that you put in the little espresso makers you put on the stove (no idea what they're called), but it's so much work to make that I can't be bothered except on the occasional weekend.

Nescafe Original, splash of milk, two sugars (one sugar in the afternoon's). Sorted!

I'll leave all the fancy yuppie coffee and coffee machines to you lot. 1 cup, 1 kettle, some water, boil, pour, add, stir, drink. Done.

I say 'render', because it's more like a kick in cool slow motion; rather then a hard hit to knock you out, only to wake you up. Coffee paradox.
Howdy figured I'd wade in on one of the more important subjects discussed on here these days.

But yeah, I did actually boil the kettle and make a cup from the Nespresso machine yesterday and it turns out the machine was actually faster. As Henrik said though, they do tend to vary on the pods. Some are a bit meh but some of the stronger ones are really quite good.

Crucible Furnace. No name, just coffee pots. It's going well but slow, gas is now firing up but the refractory - ceramic bowl you put the melting pot into - needs a bit of grinding, dremel bit turned up yesterday so might happen soon.

Best for me is Percol Fairtrade Colombia, next best hmm tricky probably carte noir wholebean.
Got an Aeropress myself, it's a cracking bit of kit with the stainless filter, better than any stovepot/cafetiere that's for sure.
I'm forever trying differen't grinds, but the most consistent is Taylors hot lava java, or their decaf.
Erythritol is the best sweetener to use, least side effect/most benefits and tastes just like the real thing.
Don't really touch sugar anymore.

I'm not going to give you the sources, do your hard work yourself and find fantastic praises of Mellow Birds on Internet.

Here:

I'd rather drink canal water than that mellow birds stuff, it doesn't even taste remotely like coffee. I'm surprised Trades Description haven't caught up with them yet.

And

just stop pretending you like coffee. You don't, otherwise you wouldn't drink a homeopath's version of it. In the new world there will be no mellow birds. Even maxwell house is prefferable to mellow ****ing birds. Stick to vaugely flavoured waters. Who drinks that **** anyway, own up.

And, I know James will get his goat bleating at this, but........

Dear god do they still make that ****, and is it still in powdered form? It reminds me of church coffee mornings!

And

I didn't know that existed until I saw it in Morrisons yesterday, still plenty of it despite the shortages of everything else sounds disgusting! An aquaintance of mine at uni (before he quit Biochem to do theology instead)used to drink some kind of dandelion coffee which was similarly vile

And

It's only simple Northerner folks scared of coffee beans who drink Mellow Birds surely? I never had even heard of the stuff until I went to University.

.........And then someone like dpb or DD goes in and slags Millicano off, I think:

Nya, Good Sir, nay!

why, there is indeed an infinitely worse, more vile and disgusting brew than Mellow Birds (as revolting as Mellow Birds undoubtedly is). 'Tis a brew made of Satan's dropping stirred into Satan's own urine and left to blend into what is truly a form of Distilled Evilness that only the most Godless and foulest of heathens would consider drinking themselves, let alone offering to their guest (a more unforgivable insult cannot be concieved by the mind of man, methinks).

Ladies, Gentlemen and those who aren't quite sure, I present to you...

Further debate on this issue is almost unnecessary

Ps: I think he presents Millicano's image to the ladies and gentlemen. I wanted to C&P as it is, but it wouldn't let me.

Hm. I did try talking machine/robot take over elsewhere but the interest received to that topic was much less than to this coffee (and coffee related) topic.

As Henrik said though, they do tend to vary on the pods. Some are a bit meh but some of the stronger ones are really quite good.
Yeah. I read Henrik talking Lavazza. That's one bitter coffee you could wish for. The smell alone of it would make you wanna spit imaginary feathers!

Great. Good to know it's going strong. just thinking about it makes me wanna throw my tuppences in it and see what happens.

See, like Jonc, Tidgy, Jack et al, it's gadgets for men, again. :

Erythritol sounds like antibiotics. Glad to know it's a sweetener. Hope it's not Aspartame based?

Sounds substantial, just by its name. Looking at the trend, you could comfortably switch the names. Call coffee Costco and the shop Douwe Egberts and it may even sell better.

I must go in and buy some. Shame Aldi don't sell it.

I read some reviews on Aldi coffee. They were just a tiny bit better than Mellow Birds' reviews.

These are good for a quick coffee and keep it hot for ages. I can't stand most instant coffee, not a massive fan of pod machines (some are okayish, but the Dolce Gusto I had was complete rubbish) and it's way quicker than my espresso machine.
