Personally, I don't care about paying a few hundred quid more from a dealer if it's the right car. I spent a year looking for a low mileage car with proper history, saw many, private and trade. None of the private ones I saw were as described, some were total dogs. Any well sorted classic is still a bargain for less than 3k, considering how much car you get for the money. The red one has just had a clutch and cam belt, that's quite a few hundred quid saved already.
Sooo I had myself a good little chat with the trade guy and had a good rest drive of the red one. Car definitely looks in good condition, but has had previous rust and treatment.bit attaching bumper to body corroded and newly undersealed.no new clutch unfortunately. Think for that price I will have to keep looking.

OK so neeeext

Just wondering. The impretza being a performance car and a huge step up from my zr, the clutch control will be much more important. In traffic, crawling a bit above the bite point is bad isn't it?

There's a £2800 bill listed on 17/8/12 but no mention of what it's for. Engine rebuild?

THe previous owner is quite probably the biggest mug on the planet. And Central Motors Bury have gladly taken advantage of that.

Since the car has been taken there, circa 2 years, it's had the rear discs and pads replaced 3 times and the cambelt done twice.
The cambelt was done the second time after doing 60000 miles so not unreasonable

It's a shame it did so many miles in the last two years

Its definately a shame on the high miles

Okay so very last question.....for now.

I have found one more near me. Looks in good nick and has fairly low miles. Only problem is its from isle of man. What do you all think of this one? hopefully i will get to test drive it one evening this week.

Will it be classed as an import on insurance?
Will it be classed as registered in 2015 for tax or will it be the 1997, so £230 a year?
Are there any major downsides to the 97 compared to the 99+ ?

This is a 3 hour drive from you, but might be worth looking at, i'd think you would get it fot around £1500, then could spend the rest of the money getting in put back to mint condition.

Hmm, that is definately looking tempting, i realy like the green classics. Will contact the seller for a quick chat for sure.
But it is quite a distance from me, would really be annoying to go all the way down to find something expencive needs doing.

Main downsides of '97 over '99 and '00 are lack of 4 pot front brakes, and an ecu that you can't remap. And they're older. I see the blue one's now sold. Take your time. I would rather go for one with higher miles and a comprehensive invoiced service history than a lower mileage one with just stamps in the book.
