I find it hypocritical when non-believers marry in churches. I hear from them that it's for the mere aesthetics and family wish etc., but it must be hard to deal with the conflict inside when you have to take the vows on the name of the one you have no faith in. I think people delete the name of the one in their psychological intake and carry on believing their on cognitive and moral abilities.

There's no doubt that these magnificent structures cannot be repeated in this day and age, I agree, but they were built for the prayers. Non-believers getting married in churches is simply false, earthly and pompous, nothing else. It doesn't come from heart, does it.

It has been happening for years! I lived in a massive one for a home, and the other tiny derelict one up the road was used as an underground venue by pot smoking kids.

OK, if one needs to get married for the aesthetics and that alone, then don't have a man in the white gown to make you take vows on the name of God. Don't pretend what you're not. But if you do, for sake of a bit of theatrics, God help you!

I will also mention christenings, if your not going to support your new blood in the ways of the lord, why get them christened.

I think most people who are clueless think when you marry its church and christenings are a done thing for child to TICK a box.

when i found out what they really mean when i myself had to christen my youngest it was a learning curve, Vicar coming to my house to chat to me etc..

Bit like marriage really i regular see couple stood at the back showing there willingness, as our church and like others won't just marry anyone you need to show willingness...

Weird but i suppose its the way it should be.... Why bother if your not going to go use Gretna Green

I have to agree, We started going to church properly a year before we got married and went every week... we then got to know the vicar.. the other members of teh congragation etc... so when we were married at St.Mary's in 2006 we felt we knew the ppl marring us etc.
BUT.. we've kept going. I was baptised there and we both were confirmed a few years ago too.
I'm now (or should I say) got ropped in to be on the Friend's of St.Mary's Exec Committee ... they do all the nice stuff atthe church to raise money towards stuff.. like the new floor they've had done, along with things they need in there. A baby changer was the thing I pushed for!! lol
As we now have two little ones who were christened there as well.
We now go at least once a month (for Junior Church) with the kids..... as our church is a bit heavy going and when the kids make a noise you get looks and want the ground to swallow you up sometimes lol
We do seem to be the youngest there

Saying all that, our Vicar could then write a fantastic letter for us (as he knows us well) when we applied to get Edward in the local CoE school, which he starts in September. Least we can say we go to church and want to have a Christian up bringing for our kids.. in a CoE school too.

we see it too where young couple come to get the Banns read.. then get married.. then never see them again. Why bother going through it all??

I'm far from a bible basher or someone who will push religion. It all comes down to faith and belief, it's up to you what you want to make of it. But you can't tell me we are on the earth because we just appeared from nothing.

Just look out your window and see the beautiful world we live in.. Flowers.. animals.. etc..... something must of put us here... even if it's someone with a warped sense of humour lol




As a 'Christian' country we should embrace it more and stand as one.... there are other religions around us now that pose a greater thread.. and this is all brought on by their stronger faith and belief in what they believe in.

As a country of 'plastic' Christians who pick and choice the day they go to church.. mainly Christenings/Weddings/Funerals.. with a non believer attitude.. maybe on the whole society would be better if people had more faith which would then filter down to their kids who would be better all round citizens with greater respect for others? (I'm asking the question, not preaching lol).

Our society/laws and general way we live (or should live) all comes down to biblical history of the ten commandments. I think a lot of people forget that. Or didn't know.

Yeah as mine go we can apply to the local c or e also which is a very good school, but of course you need to be a church goer and have the vicars backing... She will be the first of our kids to go but the way schools are going at the moment schools getting worse kids disrespect teachers maybe it's a good thing...
