I personally own a V3 Type-R Sti and just love the rawness of it. For the money it's very hard to beat for the mental acceleration and grin factor alone! Both the Type-R Sti and the P1 are special cars but for me the Type-R Sti is the one to have.

Type r does have the edge with it's dccd r180 etc etc but the p1 does look better. But then again im biased. My p1 is far from standard now anyway so comparing it a type r wouldn't be fair but out of the box type r is better than a p1.

i would be interested to know how many of the posters on this thread actually have a totally standard p1 or type R. once you start upping the power you have to change the gearbox and you have the same bloody car ffs

Aesthetically what are the differences between a P1 and a facelift TypeR?. Isn't it just the front bumper?.

Does it really matter which is better there both subarus both worth a good wack of cash in good nic and both very desirable
All the above can only gonna get better with age
The older they get the less abuse there gonna get as they end up being too expensive to thrash and mostly owned by enthusiasts
The majority of the crap ones of both models will end up broken in the next few years as I'm sure many already have
That said some good cars are broke too purely for financial reward
To sum up Id have either
But I do love dccd

My Type R was pretty close to standard apart from VF34 and Alcatek ecu, original turbo let go so previous owner went for VF34 and I fitted the Alcatek for dual fuel maps and of course a little more go, 331bhp.

I did mod it a little, 18's and a few handling mods, roll bar, ALK and some bushes, but went back to 16's, Also had uprated AP clutch, Exeddy lightweight flywheel, FPR, and 3 inch full de-cat miltek exhaust, which were more in the vain of up-grading while the engine was out than modding.

The VBAAA in the P1 can take about 400bhp maybe a bit more, providing it isn't launched to fk everywhere.

Not my picture or car... (Unfortunately)

This car is standard exterior wise by the looks of it.

Type R STI version 6 limited... IMO the best looking Impreza after the 22B and more hardcore than the P1 too .

Both great cars, you tend to find, people who slate either model, A) Haven't ever driven one. B) Can't afford one. End of. Why so called Subaru enthusiasts slate one another's cars is beyond me. Do Ford enthusiasts do the same?
