They all use the same base fuel but each company use their own mix of additives to make their final product. It's said that tesco use quite a lot more silicone in their fuels than the other big names.

For me, I'll let tesco do the food and shell do the petrol.
So WHERE are the additives put in then?
Because once it's in the tanker, it goes to the pumps, end of.

The Chemical Fairy duh, she comes in the night with a bottle of silicone and puts a few drops in if the petrol has been good.

I'll give you a clue.......

The fuel tanker isn't completely empty when it fills up at the refinery.

Tesco fuel for me. Only cause it's nearer to where I live. No difference apart from price (tesco few pence cheaper)

Do people really worry about a few pence per litre while owning an alcoholic Impreza?

Yes, some people do! And I am one of them.

Our local Shell is about 2p per liter dearer on standard 95 ron than our local Tesco and last time I put some Nitro in (was checking something) it was either 10 or 11p more than Shell's standard 95 ron. To me that's a pi55 take in its own right. So Shell nitro works out to be around 7p per liter dearer than Tesco momentum and remember its not just a 1 time visit, its every time you need to quench its thirst

To me the price does not matter one bit. I want the best possible fuel in my car, and in my opinion that is shells offering.
Let's face it, if you brim your tank from empty it'll only cost you an extra 4 quid if you use shell instead of tesco.

I've used both, Tesco 99 Momentum & V Power, now Nitro+ & see absolutely no difference!

I only used Shell for my RS but for my Scooby i used any high octane fuel and can honestly say i never noticed any difference between Tesco, Shell or BP. Only time ive noticed a difference in fuel is when i filled my GSXR 750 with BSB fuel, now that made a difference

The difference in some peoples minds seems to be in their head. If some want to pay more for their fuel on the understanding that they think its better than the rest, then that's up to them. But not all what you see in the paper is true

I use tesco, never had a problem so far and will still use it for the foreseeable future. Also used Nitro and no difference was noticed by me. So I will keep my savings for the next tank full

On a standard ecu you may see some gains or loses but in general if its been mapped on an aftermarket ecu you probably won't notice anything unless you get poor quality fuel. Its mapped for what was in the tank the day it was mapped.

Now this isn't an up to date fuel, it's was what was in the tanks nearly a decade ago when my old man had his jap wrx 1994, and he always said it ran a lot better on the normal tesco stuff. He reckoned it did used to run slighty worse on the higher octane stuff and to our knowledge the car hadn't been mapped. Standard 260bhp I think.

Thanks, tom.

In life, 99% of the time, you get what you pay for.
When something is 'cheap' or 'cheaper' you can (most of the time) gaurentee it's not quite as good as the more expensive option. And that rule applies to almost every item we buy.

If my added piece of mind costs me an extra £4 per tank then so be it, and let's be honest, if £4 a tank means so much then you really shouldn't be driving an impreza.

We all make our own choices, there isn't really a right or wrong answer. I prefer to use shell for my fuel and others tesco, some prefer to use aldi for their food and others use waitrose.
We pays our monies we take our chances.

Not sure I see that logic. With a car that does more tanks, £4 per tank should be more important than on an ecobox!

That said, all fuel in the UK meets standards but if you find piece of mind in £4 then who are we to change your mind. Marketing is a multi billion £ industry, it needs people like you to keep going.

My point being that I wouldn't use a cheaper fuel just because it would save me 4 quid a tank.
If I was hard up then maybe I'd reconsider, but then if I was hard up I wouldn't run an impreza.

Maybe you and your tanker driver buddy are right, maybe there's a massive conspiracy going on and shell/tesco fuel is absolutely identical

I must of been away on holiday when shell had their nation wide fuel contamination problem like tesco did a couple of years back

I'm surprised there are no Petroleum experts on Snet, there seems to be an expert in every other profession...

So how does Shell get from crude oil to V-Power? Surely its the same way as Tesco gets to '99, physical and chemical processes and a splash of ethanol....No?
