Clarkson's problem is that despite being a very big guy, he's obviously not very confident about his physicality, and in a lot of people that combination will lead to a bullying personality and exactly the kind of lashing-out we're reading about here.
The smart thing for him to do if he does get the boot would be to take a few months break from any kind of TV presenting, give up the ****, get fit and reassess his perspective on life a little. Probably far too set in his ways to actually do that, but stranger things have happened.

I heard of a regular British man A in France or somewhere who actually beat a man B up so brutally in some restaurant that the man B died. The reason he did it because that dead man B (when he was alive, of course) had been sneakily taking pictures of man A's young child. Man B was identified as a chronic paedophile. In this case, I'd have my heartfelt sympathy for Mr. A. But people in general that resort to hitting people for much smaller things, because they cannot help their foul temper, are loathsome imo. Wild, overage, rough children with dysfunctional behaviours.

As has been said many times, the show isn't what it was 5 years ago. It must be really difficult to come up with anything original.
I think the more 'samey' the shows have become the more they have relied on puerile **** jokes; I certainly won't be missing those.
The show has kind of run out of steam, - in the UK anyway.
If I hit or even attempted to hit anyone at work, I'd be out. Simple gross misconduct, so if it's true he's in deep ****

I used to work for one of the large financial advisory firms.
In the pub one night after a few drinks, one of the IT support boys has a verbal pop at one of the (significantly older) senior managers. Said senior manager headbutts said IT support lad, breaking his nose.
The verbal was probably uncalled for but the senior guy was a bit of a head case and known for having a temper.
The result? IT support lad gets a written warning for misconduct.
Not particularly fair, but that's life.
We'd need the full story of why Clarkson did what he did (as opoosed to the "he was hungry and no food was provided" line) before we can pass judgement.
For all we know the producer may have been equally to blame, or totally innocent.
If he really did hit him, however, that's assault and the BBC should have reported it to the police as well as suspend Clarkson, which they don't appear to have done.

I understand that the older guy can make it difficult for the younger guy, but he has committed a criminal offence, it's beyond the realms of office politics or procedure.
As for the producer being equally to blame, unless he physically assaulted Clarkson, how could that be? The BBC would have suspended him to, which they have not.

Just to answer the earlier question on Clarkson's ownership of Top Gear:
The 2012 annual report and accounts of BBC Worldwide - the corporation's commercial arm - show it got a dividend of £4.5m in 2012 from a company called Bedder 6.
The company, which is registered at the west London base of BBC Worldwide was set up by Clarkson and Wilman.
The BBC then owned 50%, with Clarkson reportedly owning around 30% - meaning his dividend would have been around £2.7m in that year, on top of his BBC salary. He has since sold his stake to the corporation.

If that's the case, what sort of employment law does withholding food come under?.
Are waivers signed by any party?
It's an interesting situation as one persons loss can kill a lucrative and popular show, look at 2 and a half men and Charlie Sheen. It's even more complicated due to the rights owned apparently by clarkson.

Like him or loathe him, clarkson is Mr Topgear. It does make me laugh why a lot of people slate him and the show, yet still carry on watching it. Go and watch Call the midwife instead!
As for 5th gear being vastly superior, I see that there is a new series of it. It is now on about its third channel in as many years. VBH's stupid, screechy laugh gets right on my thrupnies, and Plato seems to have been replaced by Chandhok. I hope this is due to other work commitments, as I do think Plato is a good presenter, Chandhok is good on f1 commentary but don't think he cuts it as a presenter.
Caught the beginning of last nights show, they ran an Aston and a Ferrari through a tunnel with a decibel app on an iPhone to see which was louder, don't know where I've seen that before!

It has no original ideas, well the very few episodes I've seen of it anyway. Tiff is the only one worthy of any respect. I remember him on the original top gear testing the mclaren f1, I watched it over and over on tape lol. I even broke the tab to stop anyone recording over it.

Yea hes ok, a fantastic drifter 
ex racecar driver. His presenting skills are adequate, but for me he comes across as a bit of a ****.I have that f1 vid on my PC at home

switching channels and NEVER recreating what the had on the original channel
from Morecambe and Wise (went to ITV from the BBC) to Adrian Chiles and daybreak (or whatever it was called)
I am not saying they will necessarily struggle - but it is no nailed on certainty
the audience will drop that's for sure

A mate of mine used to skive off work and go sit at Goodwood in his work van. He said Tiff was there one day, having a go in a radical or some sort of track day weapon, and turned to my mate and started chatting away to him. Said he seemed a nice bloke and down to earth. Have heard Plato can be a bit of an **** though, although I think he comes across better than Tiff as a presenter.
