Actually I have to agree, there has only been 2 cars that wowed me with handling in the "for what they are" bracket Focus is one and the Rover 200 is the other.
But I wouldn't spend £30k on one though there's so many cars out there that I'd sooner own than a tarted up Focus, I just can't get excited about them, they really do absolutely nothing for me.

l can't think of another good family car that has equivalent performance, reliability and holds its price as well for 30k. (When l say good family car l just mean 5 doors etc, obviously not economy)

Fair enough, but out of curiosity and not as a SN attempt to put you on the spot what would you have IF you wanted a new car and had 30k?

I just don't see anything out there that does it for me or that can do it that much better than what I already have, I'm very happy with my crappy WRX and I really don't care what anyone else thinks about it, it ticks every box except the "Totally Mental" one and I have the Type R or my mates Stallion (real horse not some silly named car) for that if I'm feeling really brave, which I've not done so far as it is mental and I'm a little out of practice, but he's got a lovely filly that rears up and does a double step /hop on the spot when you give it a good kick from standing. which is great fun, I'd sooner buy that.

I just wouldn't TBH, I know it's the boring answer and quite predictable but I'd sooner spend £10k on my Blob Wagon and £10k on my V3 Type R and buy a fast ish boat with a small overnight cabin.

I have the same opinion as Ditchy, I just simply would never buy a brand new car unless I was a millionaire . I much rather spend £10k-£15k on a really nice second hand car with a lot of change left over. New cars just don't appeal to me. Or I'd buy a nice decent Ford RS classic car or an original STI which holds value completely and will still provide as much fun and turn heads just as much (probably more).

MK1 Focus RS are at rock bottom prices at the moment, maybe time to pick up a low mileage minter around £10k-11k and if you plan to keep for a few years, I cant see you losing money, maybe get what you paid or even make a bit on it.

Take all my comments back.Just read TG'S article on it.Looks brilliant
Mk1 version looks so dated and basic compared to it !

Yeah that doesn't sound good at all, certainly not compared to the dirty rip that the previous generation 5-cyl RS made.... however, maybe it's got some electronic trickery inside (Golf R style) to make the owner feel like it sounds awesome.

Grant
