our GP practice is brilliant

in most instances you can be seen the same day

 

Is that with your own doctor, or just whoever is available?

 

usually with our own doctor - but it is a smallish practice (I think) so if push comes to shove you may get seen by another - but not a problem for a same day service

we try and be socially responsible and not use the NHS resources without pretty good reason

and any GP will tell you they spend 80% of their time with the same 20% of the population

 

'I have'* only ever used the NHS for having my tonsils (and adenoids) removed.

* IIRC, at the age of seven i.e. I didn't even make the decision to go! lol

The only time in my 46 years on this planet I've ever been to hospital or A&E.

So no 'guilt' in this corner.


Much like most responsible folk, I'd only ever see a doctor if something felt/looked not at all right. Ironically, that will of not wanting to bother/clog up the system will no doubt be the death of me - prob end up ignoring a symptom and getting cancer or something. Go figure...

 

Which will also save the taxpayers money, good on ya I on the other hand have been quite good at doing things such as chopping my thumb off from a young age. I also like head injuries.

Big time, id agree that the country would be better off if i were dead only all my tax paying family insists that i stay alive, what can you do. Plus have been private health care through my dads business most of my life so not quite as big a drain as it would first appear. Maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to make it back up.

The NHS should be cut down to genuine emergencies only, and time wasters flooding A&E for broken nails and stupid stuff like that should be charged. Same goes for drunks filling the places up at weekends - those people should be charged. Doctors visits shouldn't be free and people who've never paid into the system certainly should not be using it free (health tourism)

It's a service everyone likes, but we can't afford it - we need to face up to that fact.

What do people think will happen moving forward 10-15 years when there are less working people in the UK due to an aging population, and far more older people who need NHS services?!..

Feel sorry for the hard working doctors and nurses who are expected to go above and beyond yet are fighting a losing battle.

 

Good post, it's all good and well pointing the finger at government etc but the public have a role to play as well.

Nurses don't work hard though, or at least no harder than most, its a myth, doctors in hospitals work quite hard but relative to their pay I'm not sure how hard.
