They are lardy coupes.
A skyline would need approximately 750 REAL hp to match Dingys p/w.
A Skyline only needs a clutch upgrade for a real 650hp?
Don't tell me - you think Superman is real to?
Wake up and smell the roses Arron - Dingys car, Mikes car and Jay Bs car will absolutely slaughter that Skyline.
Your case has more holes in it than my boxer shorts.

Um,
10-20 year old ford? Or a Skyline GTR?
hmmm..
Don't fool yourselves guys. Anyone can buy an old ford these days and spend a grand to make it a 500BHP + car. No problem. But to sit there and tell me you would all prefer that to a Skyline GTR, then I'm sorry, you are talking bollox. The only reason you aren't already in one is because you probably can't afford it.
Sorry guys, for me, a car needs to do far more than be able to light up its rear tyres.

Let me reiterate.
Dingy, Mike et all that last post was not a dig at anyone and was not intended as a personal remark. It is, however, a pretty accurate description of how i feel when I read these 'power v competence' threads. We are all proud, i'd be the 1st to admit that, but we'd be wise to accept the obvious.

Cem,
That is absolute B0llox!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus Christ!!!!!!
If I had wanted a Skyline I would've bought one.
If I had wanted a 355, I would've bought one (although 2nd hand)
If someone buys something cheaper than they can actually afford, is that an issue?
I can't believe that comment.
This may seem out of order, and it is late, but I think you are such an 4sshole for saying that.
People on this board are getting so up their own 4sses sometimes it's UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Posting this as an explanation.
Cem, just cos you don't want what Mike, Dingy etc does, doesn't mean it's right or wrong.
In the hands of skilled drivers, both these cars are more than capable of TOTALLY humiliating your car, my car, any 4wd Japanese current pocket rocket.
And to insuate these cars needed a grand spent on them to get the 500 hp is an absolute injustice.
Both cars are virtual competition spec thru and thru.
Just because you have a £30k car and someone else doesn't, doesn't mean they can't afford it.
Choice is an issue - maybe some people aren't as obsessed with image and what people think of them, as others are.
Good job the world isn't full of snobs.

Jay B never got a run as the electronics company sent out ****ed load cells that broke the night before in the front rollers as the company was under pressure to have the parts ready in time - arseholes. Still dingys is around the same spec.

Cem,
I have to agree with Hardon on the matter of "If I had the money I would rather of bought a skyline instead of my Ford knackered Escort Cossie."
All be it the fact that I would of been able to of bought a secondhand skyline instead of the escort cossie, I love my cossie and bought it because of the rarity and IMHO the drop dead looks and raw power feeling. Whereas the skyline does look nice, it doesn't DO IT for me and IMHO is not worth the 50k new list price. They are without doubt very nice and quick, but just not my cup of tea. For the money I would rather go out and buy a EVO6 and if it hadn't been because of the insurance quote I received when looking for the replacement to my old subaru, that is what I would of been driving now.
Many people thought I was mad to pay £17000 for a 7yr old Ford when I bought my present Escort, as I could of gone out and bought a newer scooby again or an EVO5 for the same money. But hey, that was down to personal preference.
And I must admit, I have never looked back since........well until I read the review of the new M3.....now I might be persuaded!!!!

Craig,
I know this was the moment you have been waiting for. For some reason, you are unable to reply to any of my posts without resorting to personal insults. You've done it before and I'm sure you'll do it again. I don't know what I have done to upset you?
At what point did I mention my car? Never. Snobbery has nothing to do with it. You just stick to your Ferrari's and remain richer than us.
And pray tell, if these cars would do waste to the likes of Skylines and, in your words, Evo's and Scoobs, why do I not see them competing on the international scene?
It is a well known fact that these cars are a cheap way of gaining entry into motorsport, nothing else. They are capable, without doubt but far from the best.

REALITY CHECK
Like most things on here I wish people would get their FACTS right before pontificating.
I am lucky enough to own THE Skyline you all seem to kickin off about on here not Arron. I also own a Scooby WRX so am better qualified to comment than most. CARAIG H whatever u are puttin up yer nose aint what they said it was down the Pub. Lardy **** coupe.....just goes to show what u REALLY know but then again I think you drive a lardy arsed scoob don't U, well yes actually it is compared to my new Gixer on the drive but you see even tho my bike has a power to weight ratio to make u all reach for the kleenex party pack I am not foolish enough to think that it would kick all of your cars into the middle of next week. Why? cos a bike cannot usually carry as much corner speed so it depends on the type of circuit.I don't come on here and spout ****e like most about other peoples cars and get really pi55ed off with the "My dick is bigger than yours" threads. Sparring with aIntellectual Pigmies holds no fascination for me!
If any of you really know something about mechanical engineering, laws of physics (save the old power to weight bollox that u have used two barrels of) then I will gladly enter into a conversation with you where we can discuss the issues of rigidity in the chassis which sets the trend for the behaviour of any car under stress. 15 year old family saloon Vs completely redisigned 2000 Japanese Touring cars......hhhhhmmmm?
Bottom line is I am a realist no bull****, I base my arguments on experience not what I've heard from my uncles best mates brother-in-laws cousin.
My scoob or an evo etc. would show a clean pair of heals to the skyline on bumpy B roads because it is not set up for low speed damping and tramlines like a ****, but on a track only the most foolish or easily led would argue.
Reality 1 Best of the rest 0

But everyone knows Rally drivers are cr4p on circuits!
Hopefully Dingy can post his dyno chart.
The powerband isn't "bad"
I think this all comes down to the fact that everyone on this board is completely blinkered.

Are we talking about the Skyline that was at Donno a couple of months back at the SIDC track day?
If so I think that the only thing that it passed on the track was the tow truck
Stef,Harj,Mike R and Dingy all whooooooped its a*se.
Look what happened to the 750 bhp one that tangled with Mike R`s little 2 litre sierra at Bruntingthorpe
Nuff Said!

Hi Dingy
That chart looks good mate.
When you say you've never been passed by a skyline... this REALLY isn't any way of judging whether they are better or worse unless both drivers are driving at the limit of the car's ability.
As I said, I'm not a big fan of skylines myself but have driven many. It is also true that I LOVE Mk2s (and so does Birdy as it happens). If I had the choice of pasting your MkII around or Steve's skyline I would MUCH prefer yours, so I'm not being biased.
Without being disrespectful, the owners of the skylines I drove were not the best drivers in the world and DEFINITELY would not be into risking their expensive bit of kit in a race. If you are talking about track days, it is very unlikely that these skylines were being driven to anywhere near their ability.
It is also important to know that at a track day there are WAY too many variables which make the performance of each car irrelevant. like Tyres...
I will give you an example...
As an experiment I once put Bridgestone S01 tyres on my old WRX and absolutely pasted it round the wet handling circuit at MIRA. The circuit is only about 1 KM long.
We then put bridgestone S02's on a ford escort turbo deisel and I did the same.
You may be surprised to know that the escort was in-fact quicker by nearly half a second.
There is no way you can judge how good a car is by whether you pass it or not on a fun track day. There is just too much that is unknown.
Cheers
Simon

Cem,
I have nothing against you - honest.
It just makes me mad when I read statements that appear Elitist etc. If I mis interpreted your post I'm sorry.
Although after rereading them, even after the editing, it still seems to give the same impression.
I've said this sort of thing to you before, because you've said this type of comment before - and you've apologised after realising what has been said.
Believe me, I've got better things to do than wait for "this moment"
Steve,
We were taking the pi55 out of Birdy because of his comments - check them out on this thread. And he wouldn't have it that anything would come close. My comments were jest.
As to your comment about shell stiffness "2000 touring car v 15 year old saloon" you seem to be going along the same lines as Arron. It may well be stiff, shellwise, but is it going to be as stiff as a seamwelded, rollcaged saloon?
And finally, as to it being a Lardy assed coupe, it's not exactly a featherweight is it?

This is all Getting out of hand.
I was just please with the RR figures so i thought i would share it.
My friend has a Skyline 34, but its soo dull, he doesn't like it as much as other cars he has owned (never a cossie either). Its a nice car, but i wasn't trying to make any points. AB i whooped the skyline on the track, simple. And i have crap brakes and 25 Year Old Technology running. I like MK II's i think they are top. Sad i know.
Not a skyline Fan to be Honest. I do Like Scoob's tho, very nice car.
We just put our cars on the Best RR in the UK to see how they performed.
Get the Skyliner on it please.
Reliable....Drove to Scotland and back, hammered the hell out of it.....Seems Fine to me, only thing that has gone wrong is the Spark Plugs.
I don't really Know what your Problem is to be honest.
And i would by a better Car than the Skyline for that amount of money......As Standard they are as slow as ****.....

No Windin up needed....Just sharing some of my Information...
Only To55ers on here are the people that bite so easily when someone touches the handle in the back......

why do people always tend to equate old modded car with can't afford more capable modern motor with more pub-and-track cred ?
big misinterpretation and just shows how preconceptions rule peoples judgement sometimes....anyone who thinks this just so obviously doesn't get it it's really not worth trying to explain...

The fact remains, the Skyline is a fine piece of kit. This isn't opinion, it is fact. Whether or not you like the car is a different matter altogether.
And Chris, no editing was made after your comments, you are extremely judgemental by stating that I am elitist when your only points of contact with me have been aggressive.

yes.. yes it is, same goes for P1s Evos et al.
thing is tho, by sitting in one it would so often appear that the driver tends to think they can sit on their metaphorical summit and dispense wisdom like some sort of guru.
and you know what people in high places do best ?
get shot down or fall off.

I want a Skyline. I also want an EVO like Cem's.
As I look out of my new office window onto a big flat mud field I want Dingy's Mark 2 with some nice chunky tyres on it.
When I've got a lot of spare time, I want a Mark 1 RS1600 or RS1800 to restore to perfect original condition.
I want a genuine Lancia Stratos too. Those replicas at NM5 were very tempting.
As it stands I've currently got a MY00 scoob Wagon and I love it.
If I wanted a track star I'd probably get a Westie like JFs.
I love performance cars and I love seeing them together at events like NM5 and Donington. The last time I went up to Donington I was in convoy for the last few miles with Cem, W9GTR and an STiV and it was just a bloody great sight/sound/experience.
Enjoy and chill, one and all.

Right now im joining this thread as personal insults are my speciality
LOL
Birdy knows absolutely F4ck all about cars let alone driving one
so please Aaron be quiet and go back to your little corner, I didn't know that a Skyline needs a 2WD Rolling Road
talk to someone before you post next time Birdman!
Cem thinks everyone is poor apart from him which makes sense as he drives an EVO and he wants to buy another EVO
not only does he enjoy loosing money on cars but he's making a habbit of it by buying an EVO 7
LOL
Steve! Please be quiet or we can talk about your driving skills, especially when you were lapped by someone as slow as me
Anyway getting back to the RR Figures, quite impressive I say again. are there any scanned sheets Steve to show us the torque curve and how it was acheived?
Harj..
PS. Birdy! Hook Line and Sinker mate

Can we assume I drive a polo or something please? I have never in this thread mentioned my car or inferred that it is better than what you drive.
For some reason, people are convinced I am being 'richer than yaaou' which is unfounded and irrelevant.
Harj,
I know you have littered your post with smilies but it doesnt change the fact that you have just stepped in with a big wooden spoon. As usual
Anyway, lets get back on topic because I don't want to start an arguement.
I went to a RR at PE recently, the figures seemed quite accurate because a few stock cars were making factory figures.

Shouldn't you be at your dads shop by now !
You can talk all you like about my driving skills mate. Only time you lapped me was in my first session when even a granny on her vespa would have. Nothing to do with my skills tho just my concern over goons like you with out of control 22bs at your disposal
Harj all I need say is I have taken far better drivers out with me than you since my FIRST ever track day and they seem to be comfortable with my peddling. Be in no doubt Singer me old mate I will kick your lardy but from here to Londis at the next meet I attend
Dingey you didn't woop the car M8 just a track virgin pure & simple who was worried about his own lack of experience and plenty of drivers who think they are better than they really, not too mention the £57k worth of motor. By the way didn't see too much of you in the two sessions with AB at the wheel
(why is it that when one of you lot pass a better car u instantly think that your car is faster...
no accounting for driver ability or experience.
