The Newage lights are famously crap and as they are made from plastic, they cloud and pit badly. The Red Menace was no exception, so got a good going over with Jeweler's Rouge. It's one of the finest polishes but only cost me £3 for a bag from eBay.
It can be bought in a stick but I bought the powder and made a paste using olive oil as per the instructions (you can use water too).
What a result.
The scuttle got a clean out as well.

It's been a bit quite on the Red Menace front but moss does not grow on a rolling stone.
I have been sorting out the external body work particularly the lights which have had a polish and will need another go to get them spot on. But whilst they where off the lug bolts where noted to be in a poor state with an obvious ingress of water.
They are fixed into plastic and are difficult to remove being made of mild steel. But a good dose of Bilt Hamber Hydrate did the job.
While the lights where out and wheel arch liners off the crud was cleaned from behind the lights.
But I did fit some Osram Nightbreakers to the Main Beam Lights as they are not HID.
I also removed the bumper skin with the splitter attached and found it was cracked along the lip but I have sourced another skin for £50 and this will eventually be repainted in 22G and fitted along with the rear skin which is also webbed and has a small crease in it.

So, Today was rear bumper skin day (well a few hours). Out with the lights to access the bolts into the body work but they appeared to have been removed before (more later).
There are bolts under the rear arches, near the exhaust mount and OS towing eye with very brittle plastic clips through the skin at the bottom, top and next were mud flaps are mounted. And with the skin off the rust and damage became apparent. The holes in the skin near the wheel arches where broken and the JDM number plate bracket is FUBAR'd.
But on a high note there was no rust up inside the rear wings or in the lower sections near the breathers just a bit of dust, crud and 5p.
Time to sort out the bumper brackets and source a new skin.

I now have new front and rear bumper skins that will need colour matching to 22G. Whilst they are in the bonnet scope and rear window spoiler will get a match up as well. The car needs a really good DA cut and polish to get it back to it's best. The only big fly in the ointments is the paint chips above the wind screen, ChipsAway or equivalent?
The second phase of the plan is to get the various engine metal items - Cusco strut brace ends (with the brake stopper), rad brackets etc either powder coated or painted. Now I have had numerous items coated before but am wondering if there is a cost difference bewtween that and painting. The coating will entail a bead blast, prep and coat which is less labour intensive than painting. Whilst the stuff is getting done a good engine clean down will be on the cards.
I'll do the Gearbox oil this weekend. The PAS fluid is getting done at the same time as the resevoir bottle bracket is knackered and I have a spare.
My other thought is to fit a Hawkeye centre console and seats.
I also know a very nice gentleman with a full cat back Hawkeye Milltek knocking about spare but I am not sure if it would need modding to fit the Blob.

From experience doing brackets for the engine bay, I would powder coat as its a better finish and more hard wearing.
Got mine done at castle coatings in Caerphilly which is a stones throw or wheel specialist in Cwmbran will do also.

I have used Castle Coatings on a few occasions for parts and wheels and cannot fault them. They always give me a good discount if I wear my cabbage patch kit too.
The brakes need a good shoeing and stainless pistons but that will be after Japfest. I hope I can get the bodywork done before that though.

That's the plan Si. Get the parts in for powder coating and body items in for spraying while brakes are off and getting cleaned up. Now I know how to use the air tools it should be relatively easy ( I hope). I know it can be a real bitch to get the pistons popped but with the air line it should help.
I have a large plastic box and small electric heater I use to spray small items and I'll save a fortune doing it.

( Cheers Dave) to have a chat about the body parts getting painted.
Jaz is a top bloke, honest and very helpful. The end result is that the bumper skins, boot lid and bonnet scoop will go in on the 23 March for painting. I got a good price and excellent service so far.

I took more bits off the tail end this afternoon.
So after a good scrap and scrub it was into my £4.99 "rust remover bath".
Rust muncher added and into the shower for a wash and soak.
- Lashing/towing points
- Exhaust mount
- Fuel cooler/filter box thing
- Bumper brackets
