Fair question. Yes they are both part of the Bible, but the differences can be best summed-up by John 1:17 who says “The law came by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ” and also Romans 6:14 that says "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.” So we need to distinguish between the law of the Old Testament and the grace of the New. The former is rooted in flesh and the latter the spirit.

Probably the best two examples I can think of are first, circumcision: in the Old Testament the command was to be physically circumcised whereas in the New Testament Christians are expected to have an unseeable and spiritual and metaphorical circumcision of the heart (Romans 2:29). The second I can think of would be the commandment to only eat 'clean' foods in the Old Testament whereas Christ says in Matthew 15:11 (New Testament) "It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth."

It's the external 'legalism' of the old and the inner 'spirituality' of the new. Sorry if that's a bit wordy and churchy, I'm happy to try and answer any clarifying questions.

Self Loading Rifle; our main assault rifle for decades; used a lot in the Falklands and in NI. Replaced by the SA80 which is still used. The number often denotes approximate year of introduction (not the AK101 though!)
