Yes, that's it

Although the point is slightly more nuanced

There is a great line in the film where a lawyer says

"It takes a village to raise a child and a village to abuse a child"

The implication is that the whole community knew and tolerated the abuse to a greater or lesser extent

It took an outsider (he was Jewish and not from Boston) to become the new editor of the paper and suggest the spotlight team look into the story

Good film

Thanks for the review on Spotlight. I shall stick that in my watch list.

I stopped talking about films on this thread because recently, when the OP posted again in this thread, I realised that his interest was in horror type of films, not any film. But As I see people talking about other genres here again, I will tell you what I watched etc.

I've watched a 2012 film called Midnight's Children this week. It was sitting on my shelf for last 2-3 years. I had read the book (published in 1981; read it in 2000's) and therefore, I wasn't that keen to watch it. My honest review on the film is that it's well worth a watch. Despite gaining mediocre reviews from the media, imo the film is remarkable. Perhaps it won't be everyone's cuppa but it strummed my chords successfully. A masterpiece film on a masterpiece literature. Big 8/10 from me.

Nor seen a good horror for ages, seen some horrors but not a good one.

The misses won't watch them, but I normally watch one on a Sunday in the kitchen whilst doing he Sunday lunch, yes, she is a lucky lady.

I buy a few at at time from Amazon, not the most recent, so can buy ten at a time for a few quid each, have just had delivered;

Julia X
Alyce
Dead snow 2 (liked the first one)
Excision
I spit on your grave 3 (first good second so, so, 3rd meant to be better)

Watch other films, but love a bit of horror

Hey Turbo! All posts on films welcome Although I mentioned horror originally I wouldn't want to restrict it to that genre. I have seen so many great films since this thread started, so please post away

I eventually saw Unbroken with Jack kid in that. It was good but didn't really absorb me that much. It could be because there have been many better 'prisoner of war' films made like this where the prisoner is much more expressive, in the 'drama' sense. To me, firstly Jack hardly spoke much. Secondly, what kept him alive and grounded in that awful environment could have been highlighted a bit more. I think the film maker went for what would sell regardless. Hard core beating and sh7t like that.

6/10.

Also, they put too much foundation on Jack to make him look less rough and his jet black hair dye looked fake. Good least-verbal act from him, though. Like that 71, as always. He spoke more in Starred Up, and that wasn't bad! Film makers should use his vocals more.

Basically another version of Cool Runnings, but loved that too

Please tell me 'Captain Phillips' gets good.Watched about an hour of it so far and it is turgid to say the least at the moment

Saw Coherence the other day, a small budget film that is a bit of a mind twister. I'd give it a 6/10 only as it became confusing to the point of irritation

New flagship Samsung TV set looks a handy TV to watch HDR blurays on!

21ms too for gaming. Not sure I can justify selling my 2015 model though :/

Just wish they'd release the PS4K to I can watch a bloody HDR film. Has anyone watched one on an HDR UHD bluray player yet?

Some recent watches

Hateful 8 - Personally I thought it was great. Didn't go on too long, looks great in the wide angle it's been shot. Quite amusing.

Primer - Watched it with a guide sheet to help explain what was going on. Didn't feel as confused as I thought I would.

The Big Short - really enjoyed this. Some great cameo's to help explain financial instruments. A worthy watch.

Margin Call - different take on the same theme as Margin Call. More austere, bit bland but not bad.

Batman Vs Superman - quite poor. I gave Affleck the benefit of doubt and I really didn't like his Batman. The comic handles the entire affair better in so many ways.

Bridge of Spies - Good film but not really much of an involving story. Not sure Rylance's role deserved quite so many awards and an Oscar.

The Revenant - again not quite Oscar material. Was a bit too grim for a spot of "Netflix and Chill" would recommend though.

Just watched 10 Cloverfield Lane, not sure if had anything to do with the brilliant Cloverfield but it was pretty decent, John Goodman gives a Sterling performance as the unhinged (or is he?) antagonist though he does unintentionally resemble Hangover's 'Alan' quite strongly at times both in his temperament and mannerisms.

7/10

We watched a horror film called Hush on one of these evenings. Very pretty and talented lead actress in it. It was ok, actually. 5/10.

Thought 'The Revenant' was absolutely superb, Tom Hardy puts in an amazing performance, some great scenery and some good action scenes too.

To be fair, I didn't say it was super fantastic or anything, but at least I could digest it. I think horror films are rated for their degree of dark and gruesome horror in them. I don't watch horror films anyway, and I wouldn't have chosen any horror whatsoever to watch; personally. I just thought that whatever Hush offered in terms of acting (by the lead actress) and a bit of mild edginess, was ok. I liked the cat in it as well.

At least It wasn't a cheesy horror film with a chainsaws and zombies, although I was unsure about the planting of that texting character who seemed to have nothing to do with anything. Well, unless the baddy was actually that texter. I dunno. I also noticed that the film promotes the Apple products very well. Mr. Jack Clark will be pleased to know that.

13 Hours -The secret soldiers of Benghazi Quite an epic story in the mould of Black hawk Down . Worth a watch.

London has Fallen - Over the top fantasy

The Brothers Grimsby - Not as good as I expected - Really gross.

Race - Story of Jessie Owens . I loved it.

Generation Kill - TV series . Not watched but highly recommended.

This thread has given me so many different films that I may have never seen that I just want to say....."please post about any films or tv series" that you love that you think people might also enjoy. Forget the OP "Horror" angle it's about any film/TV series that has "dinged your dong"
