Surely though this shows that even with low mileage and at the right price something can go wrong within a very short space of time.
Buying a used car is a lottery. If you really want perfection then I'd suggest cutting your budget for the car, going for a **** heap and factoring in a rebuild and respray.

im not going for low mileage for piece of mind, I agree anything can happen to any car new or old I simply want a lower mileage because that's all ive had with my cars and that's how I intend to keep it.. also the next one I buy will be staying with me for a few years so I don't want a high mileage as a start off point. I cant see the point in buying a run down car and rebuilding it..if I was looking for a big bhp project then maybe but im not ..im after an every day car that will be used for work and play..and to ferry my family around so ide rather bide my time and find the right car.. if I have to wait then so be it. its a lottery your right

Wow, what a thread! I can see this from both sides, not all of us are powerfully built company directors. Because of this spending £7-8k needs thought, it is still a lot of money to most people. However, when i bought my 95 wrx ra i didn't really have the money. Its cost a lot to sort and keep running on a daily basis. Its a stupid car to get when you have a wife, 3 kids and large mortgage. But, I have more years behind me than in front. I've seen cancer take family members and people i went to school with. I realise that time is more important than an APR for my loan or credit card. Sometimes you just have to think, f'#k it, i'm going to do it/buy it. You can always look back with a pint and laugh as it sits in the garage with a knackered bottom end, might even learn a new skill rebuilding!

people seem to either not think or forget that come service time even a 3k 12 year old impreza still has the service costs of a 30k car.

not at all.

oil and filter £40
set of plugs £30
gearbox and diff oil £60

nothing you cant do yourself and you can even get a cambelt changed for £300

nothing like the costs of new car servicing.

new cars require dealer servicing to keep up warranty stamps therefore you get your pants pulled down.

Sorted, sorted and sorted. Unlike you I buy stuff and don't sit at home using my £1 notes to wipe up my tears.

P.S I actually bought two sets of mats, if you get a new age impreza in the next 10 years I will sell you a set.

I actually need a set of wiper blades again, any recommendations ? Or do you wan't me to post a thread in 12 months time saying I still can't find the wiper blades I want within my budget.

Headset yes, call of duty nah.

You wan't some helpful advice? Ok, this is a rare occasion where I will offer some helpful and constructive advice.

1. Up your budget
2. Lower your expectations
3. Stop posting threads crying about how you can't find a brand new car for the price of a corsa 1.2
4. Bite harder, you're doing a great job so far

Honestly man you're just making yourself look like a right joke, if you wan't an impreza then go and buy one, don't sit there in front of your 13" CRT monitor crying about not having one.

Merry Christmas.
