don't see nothing wrong with looking on fuel consumption- put a race fuel than
why you buy cheap race seats instead some proper from sparco or better brands if money is no issue
Didn't get half of that? Buy proper seats? Let's have a look at your car and mods then seen as you like giving folk advise to buy better, all I can see is a silver newage with wrong colour ironing board on your car, and your mix match of tyres, well....
And where did I say money is no issue?

Yeah UK, I just wish I'd done my research before buying and got a JDM V-Limited WRX.

I usually change just before I hit the limiter around 7500 and whenever I've had a quick look at the dash it reads just over 60 which means around 58 gps speed due to my MPH reading being slightly out.

This thread is so daft it defies belief.

The WRX trolls arguing their cars are superior to the STI is plain embarassing. Sorry guys, it's the half fat version, the compromise, the daily driver.

It'd be like arguing 335s are superior to M3s, or that the base 911 is superior to the Turbo.

This.

Now, ffs, the op only asked if his fuel consumption was about right!

I change just before 68mph cause 70mph is on the limiter. What size wheels do you have? Mine are 18s.
(Maybe my speedo is out but I'm pretty sure its not)

The 335s might be a faster car with a remap and more comfy than m3.
Its like the evo fq400 being unbearable to live with but it you get the fq360 its more everyday and with a tune, faster!

Superiority is subjective.

215/40/17 - my speedo was always out and is even worse since going from 45 to 40.

Best way to tell is use a GPS tracker to measure your speed or go past one of those electric signs that tell you your speed.

They dont5 work over about 40mph just a sad face. I think it would encourage people to go fast if they showed you a proper read out lol

Do you think me having 18s could give me a bit more gear speed

My terminal at the drag strip was well out too, it showed 115mph on my dash crossing the line and the timeslip stated 104!

It should do. Unless you are running crazy low profiles that mean the diameter is the same as the OE 17" set-up.

probably because of your tall gearing for easy everyday driving, the performance variants use short ratio boxes to keep the car in the power band.

Ever since I were a lad folks always said that most speedo's are out by 10% so your is about exactly **** on in line with that figure, most accurate were older Jaguars at somewhere around + / - 2%.

Part of that is because the 40 profile you have used has made your speed incorrect by an extra 3.5% compared to the 45 profile tyre

Actually you're wrong. A 225/40/18 will read less than 2% lower than the original wheel/tyre combination. This would mean he would have slightly more profile than you have

I think the OE might actually be 16" come to think of it.

I thought small wheels gave better acceleration and bigger wheels better top end i.e. more speed in the gears, hence more of a top end

On what car? Not on a newage WRX

I was just talking speedo reading rather than actual speed

This states 16". The info may be for the american market Scoobs though.

http://www.fastwrx.com/pages/subaru-...el-information

This states 17" though and relates to the UK http://www.subaru-impreza.org/forum/...eza-specs.html

Interesting to note extra-urban MPG for both the Bugeyes in that link

WRX 35.8 MPG
STI 29.7 MPG

Looks like we've all got bad driving techniques.

With the weight saving I've done, removal of parasitics and mods to reduce rotational mass, I should be bettering my 32.5 mpg average by a long way.

Has anyone noticed a MPG improvement from fitting a lightweight flywheel? I know there's less work for the engine but there's also the fact revs drop quicker and the crank may loose a bit of momentum when cruising on and off light throttle?

I'd get that checked out.

I tend to get 28-32mpg around town and 32-40mpg rural.

11mpg is ludicrously bad.

Of course it's American, look at the spelling and shopping 'cart'. No standard 'performance' Impreza came with 16" wheels in the UK, not even the poverty spec ones. I thought you would know that being a WRX fan!?

Never believe quoted MPG figures, they're always way off. My Missus' Audi claims she should get around 60MPG on a run but she rarely sees over 45MPG

Sorry I didn't realise stock OE alloys would be different on a 2002-2005 Newage UK/USA WRX. TBH I've never seen a WRX with a stock back-box let alone stock alloys. As with everything Impreza you have to triple check before getting the correct answer. I'm a fan of all JDM/UK (don't know much about US variants)) Subaru's save for the hatchback. I just favour fast acceleration over reliability so the WRX wins hands down.

On the Audi A2 forums they don't ever seem to be getting the 70 odd MPG Audi claim, mid 50's seems to be the norm.

I suppose when they test cars it's done on even ground in idyllic conditions. That's why I did 40mpg on a sunny day on a flat quiet back road to Bridlington.
