You seem to be sensible with your alcohol intake. There are people who lose their marbles after two pints of lager and p155 everyone around them off.
I'm a happy drunk so rarely p1ss anyone off, unless they start it of course.

I can rarely cope with a quiet drunk who buggers off to bed after getting bladdered, but I can't stand a misbehaving dysfunctional drunken human or humans around me. They utter shoite and repeat it like a broken record, walk backwards, act precarious and urinate all over the toilet seat. Drunken ladies in the pubs cackle like bewildered geese, and drunken gentlemen's egos inflate in correlation with their beer guts. They're like a disgraceful nightmare.
Very accurate, jesus you must of been around some of my old crowd.

Not really, the key was in the word 'need'. Some people seem to be unable to enjoy a night out without alcohol whereas others can take it or leave it. The former have a problem.

The biggest issue though is the UK drinking culture. The subtext to which is that the amount of alcohol you can consume somehow correlates to you being a better/tougher person.

'Aye, he can hold his ale that lad' or the likes is something you often hear around here.... my response to which is 'so fecking what, what does that prove?' which usually stumps most people as it means they might need to think about what they just said and, like on SN NSR, thinking isn't a strong point of most round here!

I agree quite strange indeed, it is somewhat the reverse for me as I have always taken pride in the fact that I can't really hold my drink reason being it means your generally quite fit and in good health. As a rule of thumb those that tend to be able to consume 6/10 pints in one sitting are usually somewhat over weight and out of condition.

It's interesting from a Christian stand point. It would seem that one can either espouse moderation, abstinence or prohibition and still be good with God, but know that drunkenness is unacceptable. I don't appear to have been blessed with the virtue of temperance (although I'm sure it could be developed when properly meditated upon) so perhaps I ought to abstain. I certainly wouldn't advocate prohibition for a whole host of reasons, but predominantly because I do not have the right to deny people (particularly my brothers and sisters in faith) the undoubted pleasure of a drink enjoyed in moderation.

I think the sin is my lack of temperance, not the drink itself. I wonder if the same argument could be directed towards marijuana and opium and the coca leaf - all there to used and not abused.

As usual you think too much.

Now we have all seen what happens when abstinence is advocated in the religious context, generally nothing good comes of it, forbidden fruit and all that.

I would suggest a more holistic approach to alcohol, in that it's good to partake of the holi sprit.

Agree totally.

It's analogous to 'geezers' who boast of their phall/tindaloo-eating prowess...

Ergo, I've never understood the equating of:
happening to possess 'tolerant tastebuds' lol = alpha male 'manliness'.

It simply makes no sense FFS.

Or am I missing something?

Nope, I agree completely! The problem is the culture here and sadly it's spread to the female contingent to an extent now too!

I'm not liking this trend. Cat fights, drunkeness, etc.

Call me old fashioned but it's unbecoming. I want m'bitches to be ladylike.

Sure, if that's what you think.

I agree.

I agree, again.

But would you please stop depending on what God says all the time and start relying on how you want things to be. I'm sure you know how you're acting after getting drunk. I'm afraid God has a lot on his plate without bailing one specific individual out with His preachings.

God, can I bother you just the once? Could you please tell James to stop depending on what you said, and tell him to use his own human senses and human powers. Thanks, God.

I think you've rather missed the point of Christianity, Swati.

Anyway, I'm chillin' with a bottle of Old Speckled Hen now - normal service has resumed.

But let's face it that you don't half go on about what He says. He says this and He says that. God! Thing is, what do you say? That's what us humans are interested in knowing.

As the old saying goes; eat, drink, be merry.

I can't eat on an empty stomach on a night out.

I've never touched a drop.......

I used to drink quite a lot (3-6 cans of kestrel super or special brew most nights), but I had a heavy night (kestrel and sambuca) and woke up vomiting blood, lot's of it and brought up blood clots too. ended up in hospital and I had torn my stomach lining

since then I have cut back a lot. even when I go out round town with my mates, some nights I don't touch a drop (if I take my car keys, I can get free soft drinks too), I still have a great laugh and I can remember it the day after. On my xmas do last year I didn't touch a drop and had a great night

Think I'm gonna have a good drink this year though

I can't touch it because of medication. Don't miss it. Stick to Becks Blue or Bitburger drive. Shifted 3/4 of a stone since April as a result of avoiding the post-Judo beverages. I work in the catering industry and deal with drunks all the time. People, generally, are fine until the booze flows. The behaviour we see at our wedding venues from the so-say well-heeled is disgraceful at times. You can't get through to people when they are in full defcon A Hole mode. I always walk away. I mean when is it ok to hospitalise your wife at a friend's wedding after she's caught you propositioning young waitresses in front of her?! We work very hard to provide a decent, memorable experience for people and it's their own d1chhead friends who ruin it. You don't want security as it heightens tension and it's very difficult to liaise with Best Men, Ushers, Bridesmaids when they are equally as plastered! I expect to see it in town centre meat markets but not where I work. All comes down to drink and people either rinsing the bar tab or blowing off steam. I'd rather they all binned ecstacy. At least they'd be good value on it!

That's incredible! Well done, you!

Some peeps drink with any excuse; may it be holiday; Christmas; weekends; work days; if they're happy; if they're sad; if they've got married or divorced; if they've had a baby; after work etc. etc.- anything!

I was cleaning fallen autumn leaves from my garden the other day. My next door neighbour kindly offered me her brown bin in addition to mine, as I did have too many leaves to rid. Another neighbour beckoned to me to kindly offer his empty brown bin as well. I could make out from distance that was mister F. I went to his door, and saw that he's now a shadow of his former self, he looks so dreadful! A tall, dark and a handsome human of the past now looks as if his bones are thinning, his face has shrunk and even his voice has deteriorated. This 62 yr. old private school educated middle class gentleman apparently has almost everything wrong with his body. Most of it is apparently related to his long term alcoholism. I was touched with his kindness. This peaceful, gregarious and generous gentleman even offered me a glass of wine at 12:30pm on a sunny winter day. Of course I politely declined, but seeing him so withered was shocking. He stays inside most times, so I hadn't seen him for over a year, I think. His state seems to be at that point that him losing his love for alcohol may not be of any help. Very sad to see that.

Then, in society, we sometimes see the ones that go insane in public after a few drinks down their throat, and carry on drinking and spouting sh7te and ruin everyone else's fun. Very anti-social they become; on sociable drinking scenes. Bad show.

You're so right. As soon as the alcohol starts to flow at any social event, drinking people's
behaviour changes. At stage one it's regressed to the teenage, then at stage two they behave like children, throwing toys out of their trolley, then at stage three they behave like delirious animals. Soon alcohol-fuelled Christmas works do's will be quite disgraceful; as usual.

Have a good Christmas, everyone.

Just the one beer last night. I might have a glass of wine with Sunday dinner this evening and then I think I'll have a week off.

I'm at the end of a week off and think I shall be extending it as i'm quite liking my flat stomach, also no bread as the combination tends to bloat me. I have found it quite easy too and not been at all bothered by it, mind you the weather has helped with not being able to do too much this week due to rain, so not had the need for the after work reward beer, just been on the water which I really like anyway, I know, I'm strange because I like drinking water and always have done even as a child.

I don't think I drink enough water and I eat too much bread. Simple solution isn't there?

On March 1st I cut dairy and bread out of my diet (chapatis excepted ). I also have 3 meat free days a week and do 45 minutes proper exercise every 2 days. Result is I have lost 25kg and feel so much better for it! I don't even miss bread now!

I have no diet restrictions (although it is subconsciously fairly healthy with almost no processed food), drink a little most days and never worry about what I eat. And at 39, I'm getting old.

Result?

Same V02 Max as a Premier League footballer, resting pulse under 50, sub 6min/mile over 5k (or 18 mins) (6m15s over 10k or sub 40 mins), a mile in open water in well under 30 mins, 100 press ups or 25 pull ups no problem, triathlon winner, all sort of weird gymnastic "stunts" and a sub 12% bf %age.

Certainly not as "ripped" as some but there's no need.

Why the pointless ***** waving? Because, at the expense of any self credibility, I want to emphasise that it's all about EXERCISE not diet.

But it's easier to sell supplements, the "correct" food, because they are needed (apparently) every single day so they market the nuts out of them.

How often do we buy weights, new trainers, a new bike? Not very often....
