Blimey, Brembo bell and rotor 11.5kg, WRX 6.8kg

K-sport 330mm 7.6kg AFAIK, so this looks a good option. Peace of mind of new calipers too that are 2.8kg v the 6kg of the Brembos.

So are you saying that the 330mm Ksport kit weighs 4kg less that a 330mm brembo set up?

That's essentially what he is saying I think.

However Matt you are not allowing for how **** k sports are. Let alone the fact discs and pads are 1k a time....

No, 7.1kg per front corner less!!!!!!!!!!!!! A lot of that saving being rotational mass.

No wonder Brembos brake so well, the 1480kg STi never gets going!

There might be lighter alternatives to the K-Sports, I've put £2,000 aside.

I probably just need better pads though!

Red face

I found k sports to be a lot lighter than brembos but id say it was mostly due to the two piece discs.
Put decent pads in and they are fine as long as they
Are the new 6 pot ones with better dust seals.

I wouldnt fit K sports at all, by the time you have changed discs and pads once you could have covered the entire cost of an AP set up and discs and pads are half the cost for AP etc....

I have K sports on mine, NEVER again. If it wasnt the fact I was constrained by time Id have got APs on there rather than change the discs and pads

I would agree.
Knowing what I now know, I wouldn't have bothered changing from Brembos to K sports.
I don't think the K's are rubbish at all, especially with decent pads, but the difference in performance for what I use the car for wasn't worth the cost in my opinion.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Brembos with the right pad and disc combination are nothing short of awesome for a road car. They will put up with a bit of track use, but I wouldn't use them on a car used mainly for the track because I found they suffered from overheating.
Never had any issues with 356mm K Sports on track.

With 2k to spend it's really got to be AP's.

And yeah, God only knows why but the factory Brembos are really chunky for what they are.

Yup I'd agreen there too.
I didn't change anything as I sold the car before anything needed replacing .
As said before not much of an upgrade over brembos but I didn't have any issues at all but if I had my Subaru time again I would have just fitted two piece discs and decent pads to my brembos

Bedding in DS2500's on the Hemsworth bypass today; brake smell, check. Brake smoke, check. Blue rotors, check. Roundabout approaching fast, check. Bed in brake fade, check... ...NS-2R great from cold....

How did you bed them in and new discs or same ones just with new pads?

...and you sure youve not just cooked the brake fluid?

New discs and pads, more or less followed Ferodo's bedding in guide, 25-30 4 second braking spells at around 50% force, this was about 60 to 30mph. Smoke, smells and fade is textbook (afaik). I was going to bed them in gently over 200 miles or so but there was good arguments for building up temps over a short time to transfer pad material efficiently and to prevent thermal shock happening on the discs later amongst other things. It was all very technical, I always thought 20 steady miles then you're ready to rock!

I've decided against big brakes at the moment as a few specialists have told me that they take a little while longer to warm up and they wouldn't suit my driving style of 2-3 fast corners maximum from cold. I just hope the new tyres aren't the same as I'm finding them a bit skittish from cold and in the wet, though they are still very new.

TBH most of my aggressive driving is from colder operating temps, drag racing, traffic light grand prix and the odd corner when pushing another Rex, it's half the reason I've dropped down from 10/50 CFS to 5/40 Nano. I've never subjected the car to sustained spirited driving and it's certainly making for an unorthodox way of tuning.

They will be skittish in the wet and from cold you're moving into high performance tyres they need heat in them to work properly

What on a nice hot drag strip? No.

In the passing down rain. Yes....

You can't have good all round performance it's a trade off. And the nankang aren't that bad in the wet...

Don't know to be honest.

Planning on doing some sprinting and tracking in August and maybe a trip to Shakespeare on the slicks for my birthday.

Having a bit of a blow out in August before the baby arrives seeing as it's the last birthday I'll be able to go crazy and just go racing for a week....!
