Yeah fingers crossed but not spoken to him last week when I made arrangements to take the box up to them, I know the box is in good hands and will be tip top when it goes back in the car.

The 6 speed is a lot heavier than the 5 but more or less the same job to remove.
Yeah let us know if you ever need a hand, it's a pretty straight forward job to do.

Not got as much done as I would of liked this week due to work commitments but I have got the tyres removed from the wheels to go off to the Wheel Specialist for a refurb, also when I got home today my new tyres have arrived as well.
With all the good reviews about these tyres I thought I'd try a set out and see what they're like.
I've had word back from Scott at API about gearbox and the news was not as good as I'd hoped for, nothing that can't be sorted but it needs quite a few more parts than I expected, I really hope it can be sorted out by the end of the month ready for Llandow in April but more on this later.
I've managed to strip and rebuild the left hand suspension leg but the McPherson mount on the right hand leg is seized and been unable to shift it even with applying some heat, I've now submerged it in a tub of de-ruster so I hoping this well help if not I really don't know how I'm going to remove it?? I have another option which would mean ringing Apex to see if they can supply a brand new mount??

I should find out tomorrow on cost but give or take I don't think it's going to work out much more expensive than a second hand gearbox Ty so really it's a no brainer going down this route.

Thanks gents, They were on the car when I bought it however I had a chance of a set of 18" Revolution Milleniums a number of weeks back but I thought they were a little over priced with budget tyres so we couldn't strike a deal unfortunately.
The colour you see now is being changed, I had to think long and hard about it as I do like them as they are but I'm sure what I'm doing with them will look very nice on the car when done.

Another day and more work on the Subaru, today I tackled the rear sub frame, diff casing, drive shafts, and link arms which after 12 years have started to look a little tatty.
I used a rotary wire brush to remove as much loose rust and corrosion as possible and gave the rear diff cover a clean up at the same time.
As the car will need a full geo set up I thought it would be a good idea to remove the rear toe cam bolts as these can become very difficult to remove on cars of this age but to my surprise they came out with no issues and a generous coating of copper slip applied before refitting, although there's no adjustment on the other arms these bolts also had the same treatment as well.
Parts that I didn't want painting were then masked off and a good coat of zinc primer applied
After this had dried a nice thick coat of satin Black was sprayed on along with a coat of Green on the drive shaft cups.
I have to say I'm really happy with how this has turned out and looks far better than it did before I started.

Thanks Ty, it's funny as patience is not a quality I possess but on the other hand I didn't feel comfortable with a scabby rear end!!
Thanks Si, I never used to be this fussy before I started attending meets and events.
I think any future buyer of the car would like seeing jobs like this done as they usually get forgotten about.

A little more work on the car this evening. The wheel nuts were looking a bit scruffy as the Blue coating had started to come away so I gave them all a once over with a rotary, at least they all look the same now which is an improvement on how they were.
Those of you who have been following my thread are aware I've had issues with the suspension leg mounts being seized, I suspect due to lack of grease at the time of fitting. The front right hand leg due to all my efforts has been impossible to remove. I wasn't comfortable with applying enough heat to the mount for me to remove it as I was concerned about causing internal damage to the cartridge body after my previous attempt failed so I was left no option but to carefully cut it off.
As you can see I've taken enough away so the heat marks have exposed where the threads are
A groove was ground up the body to make it easier to split open
A few taps with a hammer splits the mount enough to remove it from the body.
As you can see by the mount of debris that has found it's way inside the body little wonder I've found it impossible to remove, I was happy that no damage was caused to the threads on removal.
The threads were then cleaned up and a nice coat of gloss Black sprayed on ready for the rebuild.
A new right hand mount has been ordered from Apex so fingers crossed this will be with me next week.

Thanks Daz, a couple of hours in the evenings when I'm not working late and at the weekends, it was an ideal time to get all the jobs I wanted to get done while the gearbox is away being rebuilt.
Thanks fella, as Kevin has said above, all these little jobs make a big difference and things that usually get overlooked. Looking forward now to getting it back on the road asap.

Just a bit of an update on a couple of jobs I've done to the Subaru, Thursday evening I fitted the new Exedy clutch kit, due to the wear on the old one it wasn't being refitted.
This morning I fitted the new RallyTech mud flaps bought in the recent group buy.
So out with the old scabby flaps which were well past their best.
And in with the new RallyTech's
I have to say the fit and finish are very good and I'm really happy with them. They are certainly a big improvement on the ones I removed.
The rears may need lifting but won't know until I set the ride height on the car. All I need now is my gearbox back, this has taken longer than I thought it would but really hope this will be ready next week so I can get it back in the car next Friday??
I picked up my wheels on Tuesday evening, a big thanks to Matt for recommending Reynard who did a top job on the refurbishment and tyre fitting
I really like the colour and certainly come to life in good sunlight but I'll leave posting these pics until the car is finished so I can get some half decent shots.
