Matt, Nankang NS-2R are not a "semi slick"tyre mate

They are far far from a semi slick mate.
They are an ok road tyre at best, they sent even a track day tyre.

Have a look round there's much better options out there!

And asked Mark and Steven direct on my FB page.

I'd like a proper go of it.

Doubt I could afford it though.

I saw that...pay as you play but dont break the ******

Get yourself on eBay and get a cheap 2nd hand set of grippy rally tyres Matt...they will be better than anything off the shelf, I've just got a set of CR311's with 5mm on for £102, that's totb sorted

I've got a set of the 180's they are not bad but I find the RSR's grip better...different story on the 120's I suppose, Incidentally they now use them as the control tyre in the compact cup, 330 challenge, Civic Cup, M3 Cup and Max5 championship....they have also released an 80/100 tread wear version classed as 'Race' which are gonna be similar to the AR-1 at a guess

That's interesting....

Are the 80s road legal?

For what Matt needs he doesn't need the 120s

Yeah I've got a set on my 106 track car. Don't get me wrong there not a bad tyre, especially for the money, £38 a corner I paid for the 106 ones. But they aren't a semi slick and they certainly ain't a drag tyre.
As I say they aren't a bad tyre, last time out I put an old set of 888's on that I've had sat around for 6 years, now these are mega old, full of cracks, green in places, rock hard! Last used 6years ago and they were near enough dead back then! These crummy old tyres wiped the floor with the brand new, recently scrubbed in nankangs. And Lets be honest 888's arnt exactly a particularly God tyre, there's much better options around for those.

The best thing about the nankangs is the price, they are good for what they cost

If I was trying to drop drag times, Nankang ns2r's wouldn't be my choice

No mate not seen them! Crazy that some plonker would try and take that out in the rain lol!!!

Joe, I really rate the nankang, I actually found them as good as r888s. But I was using 120 compounds that have been softened.

For RS_MATT, he is running a wrx 5spd, if he went 888 or 120 compound next time out the gearbox would be toast. He is running ditch finders and plays at drag racing, it's not serious like you do so needs to be livable day to day too. So the 180s should last well, but give a good improvement over ditch finders.

Can always soften them up after they are scrubbed intoo. Bare in mind I'm running toyo proxes t4r and these are considerably harder than the 180s and am doing 1.70 60fts.

Tyres really are not going to gain you a great deal at this level. You are better off dropping the pressures (only read last couple of pages of this btw) to about 18-20psi.

Those nankangs are fine though; again at this level, I ran 10.8 in my sprint car on concrete with those.

I think my 8yo budget tyres are beyond lowering the psi!

When I don't launch well or at high revs (and get far less spin) I'm only losing 0.1 secs so better tyres should really get those times down.

It's quite scary at what my 0-60mph could actually be launching without spinning and a 1000rpm higher launch :0

Trouble is, if you upgrade to the STI box you will add weight again and alter the gearing which will ultimately increase your times. You're left with either nursing the poor WRX box through each run to try get better times without breaking it, or upgrading to make things more difficult!

Nice 0-60 time but as already said, you won't hit 11s until you totally strip the car and increase the power again.

How was your fuel economy during these runs? Still in the high 60mpg's like normal?

My stone tyres saved it

They must be that hard they don't even smoke when spinning.

Only thing I smoke is the STi's....

There was someone here a couple of years back that thought they had acceleration issues because their tyres were spinning on the wheels!

Maybe your Ying-Yong Ditch-finders are spinning on your wheels and slowing you down? Worth looking into just in case!
