It's Apple Day - Get ready for a game changer.
And I'd suggest you must be a blind 'old git' if you need a screen bigger than a 4s
To be honest hodgy I used to be a PC builder and overclocker and back in the day would have loved an Android phone. My business partner is an Android and PC fan and is forever doing stuff to his hardware/OS etc. because he enjoys it.
I just got fed up with it and these days want stuff that just works, yes Apple gear may not be as versatile or as 'open' as some and it is certainly more expensive, but I like its reliability and relative simplicity.
Forget phones the biggest change to my working life has been the acquisition of an iMac over a PC..... what was I thinking all those years

I have never had to get involved in either a hardware or software problem in the last 18 months
Had it been a PC I would be in her room most evenings running a virus checker and reg cleaner
I still use a PC though, just can't get on with a Mac (lack of right click

Anyone want to lend me an IP5 when they get their 6, so I can see what all the fuss is about with Apple phones?
I just don't understand all the bitching, Apple/Android.

It's a phone FFS.
No, I get it - we bought our eldest a mac book pro as a present for her GCSE results

I was dreading the change over as I use Photoshop a lot and a lot of the keyboard shortcuts are different to Windows... but I would say within 2 weeks I have fully converted and somehow most of the time the Apple way just seems more intuitive.
It's been a revelation.... just wish I had moved over years ago tbh!
4g contracts are a lot more than 3g, I got my contra t witb EE and it was there 20gb unlimited everything. With an s5 it was £54 a month and with an lg2 it was £37 a month.
I got the lg2 and just put the sim in my iphone 5. Cheaper in the long run as 2nd hand phones drop in price very quicky

I have news hodgy.... right click is alive and well on my iMac

Basically the Microsoft productivity and collaboration stack - my laptop does ok at that stuff, not going to set the world alight, but in essence it performs the same function as a white transit van does to a plumber/builder
I have Windows 8.1 running on it and my desktop schema is exactly the same as the one on my Windows 95 machine back in the day ( and been the same on every iteration of the OS) I treat it like I treat a screwdriver or any other tool
I never use a PC/computer outside work hours accept for internet browsing - and the IPad is very good for that, I have to say
However, this is being typed on an HP elitepad, very poor in comparison imv
Is the technology really that expensive in minature?
Had a look on their website and the 128gb 6+ is £789! Wowsers! Memory must be the biggest con ever, love to know how much more it costs them to produce a 128 over a 64. How can it be more than twice the price of a 40" led smart TV or more than an iPad.

No chance in hell I would pay that for a phone.Someone could buy a few of these for that price.

Even £619 for that is crazy IMO.

I think there is a big conspiracy here; If the next iPhone (or any other "smart"phone at that) has to be faster, have more memory, better battery, better camera etc, then its much more cost effective to put in in a bigger case.....just slap on a big screen and add some good marketing/branding to make it fashionable, then you're onto a winner. More profit on a cheaper to make phone. And I suspect that's why all the manufacturers are going bigger rather than smaller.
Bit like Panerai (amongst others) did when they started using pocket-watch sized mechanisms inside their wrist watches.
Ridiculous when watch movements were less than a 3mm thick have been around since the 1950's....at a cost. Its much easier and cheaper to mass produce something 5 times thicker...if you can convince people to buy it. Phones are taking the same path.

Yes the 128GB 6 Plus is just a tiny bit expensive, it's $1079 here. 64GB iPhone 5S was $919 (seems the 64 isn't listed on Apple's site any more, only 16 and 32), so that's a $160 increase. Is double the capacity, 5.5" screen, NFC, retina HD, and anything else in there worth $160? Oh, and that is also the price before 13% tax too.
One other big thing is that the phones from Apple are unlocked, whereas the ones from networks / carriers are not, even the "no term" ones. I think bell's 128GB 6 Plus on "no term" is around $985, so there is a bit of a saving there, but, consider the amount you'll spend on a plan, which I believe has to be at least $60 per month plus tax, with crap data (you're looking at $125 per month before tax for an ok plan with 6GB of data) and the difference in price doesn't look so good, moreso as you'll still need to unlock the phone if you want to take it somewhere else, and that costs $50 (don't get me started about that!).
When you sit down and work out the costs, the very high initial outlay can actually make sense compared to getting a subsidized phone and being locked into a contract for two years (used to be a min of three, but consumers persuaded the government regulators that was too long)
Another factor is how long you'll keep the phone. I had my 3GS until last year until I switched to a 5S, and I was planning on keeping the 5S for around the same time period, the only reason would be if there was a larger screen. Now there are two larger screens to pick from. I tend to be able to play with the latest and greatest at work, so it helps in deciding wether I do want to get a new phone.
I really do wish they had made the specs of the two phones identical apart from the screen size, but I guess they did have to have something more on the Plus to differentiate it from the smaller model.

Paying £600 for a phone is absurd.
What's the problem if you can afford it?
Personally I think anything over 100 quid for a watch is absurd, but plenty buy them for lots more, it's not just iPhones, it's anything, but people seem to forget that in the android v iOS hater war

you buying without a contract Jack?
can't believe some of the prices network providers are charging for the phone, £51 per month for the 6+ with an upfront cost as well for the phone on a 2yr contract. I am switching to a 1 month rolling contract in November unlimited data for £15 per month, will just probably buy the next nexus (if it comes out) and sell my nexus 5

You can get round the tether blocking, saying that I haven't needed to tether in ages. I run 4 devices unlimited on everything for £44 a month. Given some rolling monthly contracts are now with 4G, there is little incentive to having a 2 year contract.
