Ah yes, Android doesn't support four finger typing, Apple patented it.

You do have a point though, the S5 is water resistant not waterproof, there is a big difference DPB. Although people have taken the S5 swimming and its been fine as per utube i wouldn't recommend doing it constantly.
So it's the same as the Xperia Z2? Relying on waterproof sockets and/or covers to achieve an IP rating which equates to basically water tight for the average user.

The way he was going on about I thought someone had come out with a bit of a 'game changer', not a method of water/dust proofing which has been on the market for years. Now if they'd used a hydrophobic coating on the boards then I'd have been impressed.

How the f*** can you patent 4 finger typing?

And how the f*** do you hold a phone and use 4 fingers to type?

That is an awesome keyboard. What is so great about the iphone 6's?

Serious question, as the pics don't tell me anything

Or you have the Lenovo waterproof phones - here's a picture of my mate's in a glass on a drunken night out:

You have quite a variety of ruggedised phones out there for more demanding uses.

Correct Unless he meant the Z3 which is IP68, but as you said that isn't fully waterproof either really, it means it can be kept under 1.5m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. So similar to the S5, which is 1m.

I've heard of IP67 phones failing in hard rain so its all a bit meh.

I know the gadget show tested the S5 under water and it worked fine but I have noticed if the screen gets even a little bit damp its unuseable.

Well the point is, I don't know why there is this obsession with thinness. Aluminum is one of the most malleable of metals. You make an aluminum backed phone bigger and at the same time thinner, the 6+ being one of the tallest and thinnest, something has got to give. Poor design consideration IMO, the growing number of bent phones is evidence of this.

I reckon I'd swap a few percentage points on the optics side for some showerproofing. !

Think I could get 7 plus skim bounces across water with that bent iphone

Some real life observations of the 6

(Obtained free on an upgrade, for the record)

Pros

Originally it felt to big, but the screen size is a definite improvement now I'm used to it.

Its exceptionally well made

Super fast and smooth in operation. Notably better than the 5 & 5S

Phone reception is improved. The 6 gets a stronger more reliable signal than the 5 & 5S. Where I couldn't reliably make a call from my living room I now can on the same network.

Data wise, 3G is as fast on the 6 on three than EE's best 4G on a 5S.

Better wifi connectivity

The screen is excellent.

For me the camera is less important. I've done a fair bit of professional photography and have kit that is woth more than a small family car, so a camera in a phone, no matter how good, is always going to be sub standard and masively compromised by comparison. Having said that, the image quality in the 6 is very good indeed for what it is. Although the flash is as useful as a chocolate teapot (but I've yet to see a phone camera with a flash that actually works outside of close up shots in darkness)

Video quality and functionality is very, very good indeed.

Cons

The fact that the camera lens protrudes from the body - presumably as a result of the phone being so thin. So the risk of damage, being knocked out of alignment, etc, is high. Come on Apple, you can do better than that. It's a poor effort and makes a case mandatory in my opinion.

Is it justifyably better than a 5 or 5S? (having run both at the same time the difference between the 5 and 5s is negligable) - without doubt.

Is it better than the competition? Who knows. Who cares. Each to their own and all that.

It is, however, a big step up for apple from what were already excellent products in the 5 and 5S.

Funny you should say that, I climbed Helvellyn this weekend and, armed with my new iPhone 6 I was keen to try it out back to back against my Canon 5D MK3. The results were MORE than surprising!

Iphone 6

Canon 5D MK3 and Canon 17-40 F4 L.

Naturally both are saved to the same resolution (2048) and obviously if you want to crop in or inspect detail with zoom its all over, but for quick web upload memories this thing is incredible and makes me question why I carry 16KG of gear up mountains on 9hr treks!

How is it a big step up for apple

If, without doubt, the differences are negligible

Bend(er)gate, yeah, saw some stuff on that yesterday. Really does depend on how much pressure there was to make it bend and where it was placed. For example, skinny jeans would probably not be helpful in this respect to many phones.

I have been using a 6 at work and at first, and I too thought it was quite big, but a few days in, it doesn't feel that big. 5S and 5 feel a little small now, and I guess that was the aim. I've not stress tested the device at all, that's not my bag.
I do need to get to a store and have a look and feel of the Plus, however, I suspect first impressions could be it's very large, but after a few days that may change.

I got mate who wears these skinny jeans , God knows why , I'll have to ask him what's occurring since he owns an iphone,.

It would be alright, only he's coming on 48, not 14.

5s is 2x as good as the 5 in many areas. The camera is a world away from a 5.
