Guess it keeps us all talking, all these facts and figures are a load of rubbish to a certain degree anyway. For most of us we'd never exploit the capabilities of these cars on the road anyway. They're all amazing and I'm just grateful manufacturers are making stuff like this still. Five years ago I'd never imagine there'd be all this choice for incredible 'normal' performance cars, thought we'd all be deciding which 1.0 Eco turbo hatch would be king.
For peasants like myself I just get to wonder which one's going to be mine in 5 years time when I can afford it second hand after you boys have had your fun.

While the M135i doesn't respond kindly to driving like an **** in the wet, it's given me several of the most fun drives of my life - both around here and in Germany. So the "competition" may have the edge on a wet road with oak leaves and 3.7mm bumps but the combination of RWD, a load of power and torque (peaking at 1300rpm - the others peak much higher), super grippy tyres and a dinky little chassis is a cracking little recipe for a lot of fun.
In five years time they'll be worth about a fiver so DO grab one if you can! Plenty of mods available too - LSD, all sorts of suspension mods, various tuning options (a few are running well over 400bhp), some great aftermarket exhausts (six of us met recently with M135is - all cold started then revved while recording - the sound really is awesome), lighter wheels, etc, etc.
Yep a remapped R or S3 IS quicker to 60 and 100 but is it as "fun?" I don't think so.

its wasn't a series production though Smurf,it was a special edition.
the A45 is the worlds most powerful Series production 2L. My mate has an Evo that's 750BHP for time attack but that's special
The Golf R400 is now rumoured to have 420ish BHP not 400 like we all though, that and it being 150KG lighter than an A45 will make it mega fast, but its still a VW Golf no special division like AMG or M, so for 40K + for what I think its going to be, the A45 will be a more lucrative option and more special.
Merc have the new C400 which does 0-60 in 4.7 and is a V6, with a little fettling that will fly. its 4Matic in the states but unsure if it will make it here as 4WD.
Lots of C63s at my dealer now for 34k upwards but all look crap, if I got 1 it would have to be the 507 model with white on black or full black.
Im running 420BHP at the moment and have been for 3 months, its great :P
In the words of David at API I want Traction not Traction Control, I watched a video yesterday of 2 of my dream cars the E63S and the new Audi RS6, on the drag strip the Audi just left the E63 behind and that was because of RWD, on the track the E63 spent its entire lap sideways, this looked fun however im not for sideways driving people can say all the want about RWD and being a proper drivers car, I know where id want to be when going at 70 in the pissing rain, I know 2 people now who have had total rightoff because of RWD and aquaplaning not great.
However the Merc won hands down due to fun factor build quality and others things, the RS6 even though a monster was lifeless..

I think he's missing the point of the BMW in that vid, it's a big engined RWD car, it's supposed to be edgy and fun to drive, not necessarily the quickest way to get from point A to Point B but I suspect it has the biggest grin factor of the three and much more driver skill required to do so.
I think a lot of modern cars are getting a little too good at what they do, they have the very average ham fisted driver looking like a bit of a driving god as they disappear over the horizon more due to the talent of the car than the driver. I also think you'd have to be doing some pretty serious speed in the merc to start getting it sideways feeling on the edge and actually having some fun.
P.S just in case you didn't catch it on any of the other threads I've mentioned it, I wasted a new GTI on the drag strip a few weeks back in the wagon.
Just saying.
