It doesn't have to be £2k+. I have imported a few sets of Volk, Work and WedsSport, all wide 18" and none of them have come to more than £1600. However, if you don't want to pay that then you can easily find good quality wheels in used but good condition for way less than a new set of xxr or Rota, that is what I really don't understand

is it £1600 for the alloys alone or with tyres???

Suppose your looking at £1000 for a brand new set of XXR's with Vredestein tyres or £1200 for new Rota Grids with Vredestein tyres!!

My friend bought a set of used Advans with tyres for the price of a new set of Rota Grids, unfortunately the Advans wont fit with the AP racing 6 pots unless you use some thick spacers which he didnt want to do as he didnt feel comfortable doing this, so he bought a set of 18x9.5 Rota Grids and they fit straight on, no spacers required and look amazing!!

So it was either run a set of expensive Advan wheels with thick spacers or cheap Rota wheels that fit straight on?? which one would be the safest???

£1600 was without tyres, but that is brand new wheels, not good quality used ones, like I have been saying would be better than new lower quality ones

Spacers are safe if you get good quality hub centric ones and have the correct studs/bolts.

I don't doubt that cheap wheels can look good

Trouble is all the wheels ive looked at are over £2k, i must have expensive taste But would love a set of Volk ce28N's or TE37's, these wheels are a timeless design, and still look good now even though they have been about since the early 2000's

Had a set of Enkei's on my hawk before I sold it!! they where quite cheap as they where from a 2012 STi so they where Subaru oem Enkei's, think you can pick them up for £350-400!!

I dont see how money comes into it, 2nd hand decent wheels can be had for handy money these days - A'la Frayz.

To be honest saying about the money side of it and me been "elitist" is Bollocks. Actually if any of you knew me what would be so far from the truth it is unreal, I would sell or work what ever hours it would take to pay for my stuff, and a few extra weeks saving might get you something nice rather than a set of grids or XXRs....

Why anyone would want cheap knock offs is beyond me, and it actually frustrates me when people talk of XXR etc as premium brands when they are nothing more than cheap fakes....

Mention XXR or Rota on NASIOC, and you pretty much get laughed at!!

My brother had a set of redline PFF7 reps on his classic and they lasted a few months before buckling when he hit a pot hole.

They looked stretched with Toyo T1-R's on, they looked like they where hanging on for dear life!! here is a picture!!

Had to replace them with Vredestein tyres which then looked much better, but if you where to go with 18x9.5 Rota grids then I would advise to go with a 235/40/18 tyre and they dont appear as stretched and fit the alloy much better!!

Had the Enkei wheels as spare so when I sold the car the owner had a choice of which wheels he wanted and he choose the 2012 oem Enkei's as he preferred them over the Rota grids!!!

If you actually drive the car as intended, get decent wheels and avoid stance/stretched crap as it will cause rubbing issues leading to camber bolts or arch rolling

Proper tyres is whats needed

Dont get me wrong I loved the look with the 9.5" Rota Grids but would I take it on a track or give it a proper spirited drive, probably not!!

But driving the car everyday on the street I didnt notice any difference from the standard wheels, It never rubbed, I didnt have the arches rolled or use camber bolts, But if I had a wider tyre then id have to have all 3 of them done!!! and then it would have been a hassle!!

For those of you into rallying I would say a high percentage of wheels used for Tarmac stages are speedline turini or revolution millenium.
I'm talking brc here and not wrc as that's just another step up.
I've seen Subaru Mitsubishi ford mini all using the above wheels.
They are both light yet strong and with correct offsets.
I have to admit I loved the xxr when it came out and it gives a lovely aggressive look but for me impractical for going quick.
Sticking close to oe offset and choosing an 8" rim would be my advise.

I can see this thread sticking round for a while as we're all suckers for a nice set of wheels.

I've got genuine rays 18" CE28's and they are seriously nice wheels but I got lucky and they were on the car when I got it, there's no way I would be spending 2k+ on these wheels, I'm just not that well off and couldn't justify spending that sort of cash.
I agree on the xxr's though...everybody's got them.

Not really, I thought it would be a good idea after seeing pictures on NASIOC, and thought I'll try it, but the Toyo tyres looked terrible on there so they where changed!!!

If I was in a position to buy another set of wheels again with a reasonable budget, I would go for the Speedline Turini's as they suit the newage really well, trouble is I had the same wheels 9 years ago so would gut me to buy the same wheel again!!

Just sold these, which I adored.

Speedline Turini

For these Volk Racing CE28N

Both beautiful wheels IMO.
Speedlines are approx 9kg in 18x8,
CE28N are approx 7kg in 18x8.
