"Israel has resumed its air strikes on Gaza after its brief ceasefire was met with continuing rocket fire.
Israel had earlier accepted an Egyptian truce proposal for the conflict and stopped operations on Tuesday morning.
However, the armed wing of Hamas, which controls Gaza, rejected the initiative as a "surrender".
Palestinian officials say at least 192 people have been killed by Israeli air strikes launched eight days ago to stop militants firing rockets into Israel."
This Hamas lot really aren't that bright.

You don't need hearts and minds when you have absolute military supremacy. They were saying on the news earlier that in the last 9 days 200 Palestinians have died compared to 1 Israeli. They don't need t0 win over the people, they just need Hamas to realise they can't win.

All this middle east pish is really going to bite everyone in the **** if someone doesn't get a grip of it - and I suspect it will be the long suffering civilians (everywhere) that will pay the heaviest price.

But given they're 3 miles away ( and all the most sophisticated weaponry available) there's no excuse whatsoever for hitting those civilians on the beach

So because the Israelis have far more military might, they are fine to occupy a territory and kill it's local population?
I've always hated bullies - this is the ultimate example.

what I find so distressing is the concept of "collective punishment" the Israelis use

I genuinely blame religion and politics.
I honestly do. Without it those people would be able to live as friends.
Islam and Judaism are sooo close it's a shame they are always fighting.

This is one of the reasons why i find groups like the Taliban/ISIS full of BS. Surely they should be going for Israel right now. If they did they would gain a lot of support (hmmm.... i wonder who is funding ISIS for them not to do so.... tin-hat).

I would't say all evil. Mankind is the basis of that which has been proven over and over again. However, there is no denying that religion seriously helps in the way of evil. Ironic eh....

It's a very complex frame of mind that is way too complicated for me to even explain. Many folk feel this way over something as simple as religious belief, nationalism, colour of skin, ethnicity, prejudices.... the list is endless. However when hate is allowed to manifest and when hate gets to use platforms of free speech then that hate can turn far nastier than simply words.

Israel aren't doing anything that we wouldn't do in the same situation, and their institutions are not very different than ours or any other western nation. We'd do the same thing, and we have, we've done worse in the past, such is the price of security.
Hamas are a useless government and they brought this on their own people through their need to play the macho hero.

Gaza isn't occupied Matt (or at least wasn't until this offensive). The first thing Gazan did when Israel pulled out in 2005 was elect Hamas, and ever since then they have been firing rockets frequently and regularly, plus the odd kidnapp and cross border raid, etc.
Israel aren't doing anything that we wouldn't do in the same situation, and their institutions are not very different than ours or any other western nation. We'd do the same thing, and we have, we've done worse in the past, such is the price of security.

On this basis, the following should now take place:
1) Britain, USA and Russia to apologise to Germany for being so violent during WWII.
2) Insects to pay compensation to cover the cost of cleaning smeared car windscreens.
3) Native Americans to say sorry for getting in the way of European colonisation of the Americas, and will seek somewhere else to live.
4) Abused children to admit they instigated priests into raping them.
5) Dodos to sign statement admitting their "extinction" was just a plot to make European hunters look bad.
