I've gotta say that we prefer Villas now.

Having two kids aged 3 and 7 we find it more enjoyable than staying in a hotel and then putting the kids to bed at 10pm and having to sit in a hotel room bored senseless.

At least in a villa you can chill when the kids are in bed and have a drink by the pool.... even get naked by the pool

I tend to do most of the cooking when we go to a villa and i enjoy going out to the local butchers etc and doing bbqs.

You do put forward some very good points in favour of the 'villa' option. We'd need two or even three weeks away with that, though. That's because half of our time would go into shopping, cooking and washing dishes.

So your idea of eating well on holiday is burnt meat?

We normally fly in early morning. Drop cases at the Villa as you usually can't occupy until 3/4pm and go and do a "big shop".

Any other bits we need, i go out and get. I enjoy getting out and about with the locals anyway.

Hm. We must do that sometimes. Kids are older with their own lives, so they won't essentially be joining us. We can still have some fun in a villa for a change. We have some friends who own villas in Turkey, Spain, Portugal and France who keep offering their place to us, and tell us how nice it is to 'villa' it. I think we may consider buying one in Spain ourselves one day, for our retirement jollies.

Wherever I go, I do mix with the locals for culture vulturing. Without that, I can't see any point of a holiday tbh. Egypt was different. I just felt too moidered there. May be, because we went to Sharm on a package one.

Villa holiday option has started to appeal me now.

That's pretty much what we do, I too enjoy going out and about with the locals. You get to know them and they tend to look after you a little better as well.

just got back (sunday) from 10 days in Fuerteventura.. we stayed at the Barceló Castillo Beach resort.. I can honestly say its one of the best holidays ive had.. perfect for kids..amazing pools, virtually on the beach. just a wall separates the resort from the beach. food is spot on never got bored of it and it was wall to wall sunshine for 10 days, we are defiantly going to go back.

Struggling to find anything for 8 people that takes our fancy.

May well end up in Devon in a tent, which the kids will also thoroughly enjoy.
