Lost count the number of times I have stopped, handbrake on, out of gear. then the plebs in front start shuffling up, leaving a big gap in front of me. **** poor driving IMO
Wonder if they are so used to doing this, they do it at the front too?

This is the usual I see here in North Wales at the traffic lights. Everyone wants to get into someone's rectum like a parasite. Even on the hill where there's a risk of some dimwit driver in the front rolling back into your car front. I mean, what's the point in getting so close to someone else's car?? Tailgating on the move is bad enough, why tailgate while waiting without movement?? Why are people so desperate?? Really annoying.

I think what Pimmo in his starting post is questioning is why some people leave one or even two car lengths gap away from the red traffic lights while waiting for them to change from amber to green. This also make things uncomfortable for the back-enders of such driver number 1 in the front. With this, On some short road from a roundabout (like the Wrexham one) they will have less space to give one another enough room, and then there will be more chances of backend bashings.

Whoever stays too far from the limiting line (which is already thoughtfully marked by the Highways Maintenance) causes a nuisance to other drivers. They need to believe that that bit of earth won't split into two to gulp them. Don't stay too far from the line, don't cross it, just stay close to it- that will do good to the world.

I do agree that some turning HGVs are far too big these days, so it may be a good idea to stay as far as. Humungous horseboxes on a turn are more of a worry in this side of the world. They're just so volatile.

Think this was about people at the front of the traffic light queue

Can't speak for others, but when I do this it's so that I can still see the lights.

Leaving too big a gap at the lights is the height of bad manners. Yes, tailgating on the open road is stupid and dangerous, but deliberately leaving the same kind of gap when going through a set of lights at 10mph just means less vehicles get through before it turns red again. It's selfish and irresponsible.

There are a couple of junctions where I definitely leave a car length in front (when stopped at a red obv). Why, because I know that buses, coaches and artics, turn in to those roads from the right and swing across to be able to make said turn.

What annoys me is the prats that don't seem to be able to stop for the white line and encroach on clearly marked cycle boxes...

yep, the two junctions I do it at are for this

The blue car sat across the white line would get twatted if something big turned in ^

You mean you waited for a logical answer and then claimed it as your own ..

Anyway, I don't buy it. No way are there people putting this much thought into driving.

I made the point in post 9 which is actually what riidaa was quoting. Why not read the thread instead of looking for an opportunity to be clever as on that score I think we'll all have a long wait!

Agree, based on the poor driving I see day to day, I've lost faith.
