btw 'victory'...they won 155 out of 3,645 (4%) council seats - on what planet is that a victory?

If UKIP support continues I suspect a Conservative-UKIP coalition might be a real possibility. Obviously Conservatives saying no way at the moment, but not like they would have ever admitted to a LibDem coalition prior to it happening.
I'm sticking with UKIP from now on, at least until we've had a referendum on Europe.

But this would have to happen BEFORE the election wouldn't it? With the FPTP system even if UKIP get a decent %age share of the vote (ie 20% +) they may still not get any MPs actually sitting the the house. (I think!)

You are comparing UKIP to a well established party. The fact that a new party has been able to mix it with the big boys on any level is a victory.

Let's see what happens in a general election when people actually look at some of their policies - the odds are they'll still end up with zero MPs. The danger being that even then they'll hand a win to Milliband!

A ukip vote is a way to force politicians to listen to people. The general attitude of politicians is that the people they represent are stupid and need to be patronised and it paid lip service while getting ignored. Voting ukip is a way to remind the MP's who they work for. However you look at it politicians are too far removed from most people, they along with national journalists are insulated from the worst effects of cheap migrant labour they benefit from it so don't give a **** about those who suffer from it. It's the same with housing, MP's get us to pay for their homes and journalists on 100k plus a year don't struggle so none of those groups care that the 100,000 properties per year under supply causes people significant harm. UKIP at least for now understand that we need either alot less people or a lot more homes. Bank of England base rate will go up again soon to control house prices, watch the economy die a death then.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Party_(UK)
So yet again, UKIP are relatively speaking a new party.
I agree that UKIP my give labour a free pass to government but from what we can see from the locals is that UKIP supporters stole votes from across the board. Obviously the locals aren't a full representative of what we can expect from the generals but UKIP are getting in everybody's way.
I don't claim to have a full understanding of politics but from what I see labour needed more support than what they got to carry them to a general election victory.

What i found good was seeing some of UKIP on the tv,sitting in a pub all having a pint together, and it was genuine.
You wouldn't see Dave and his clan doing that.unless it was just to blow smoke up our *****.

The bigger picture across Europe is the rise of the far-right parties, which i find a bit disturbing, did they learn nothing from the second world war???

It's rather funny
politicians have been so very poor and contemptuous for about 20 years now
Other countries following suit I see

Yep, perhaps now the Tories and their (ever dwindling) voters will understand that a good proportion of the electorate do not like being repeatedly lied to and then bribed over Europe!! If they had given us a referendum 2 years ago this probably would not be happening! Of course Cameron would never admit that, the truth is not something he does!

UKIP are strongest in white British areas and not doing so well in London for example. London has a lot of diversity and the majority of London's population isn't WHITE British . This is having an effect (in a small way) on the way this country is governed/run . It is not just relative to UKIP, London is the capital and it seems to be the case that the biggest influence to our politics in London is coming from non WHITE British. This also extends to other areas where the majority is not British.
Before you think iam just another racist , IAM NOT. I think this may have a positive effect on the country and stop the effects of a stale opinion. I think it can bring a new perspective and allow us to see things from a different point of view.
Just something I saw on the BBC vote 2014 that got me thinking.

After this victory in the European elections I think the media and the other political parties have already changed their tone on UKIP and are taking them much more seriously. There are probably loads of people out there who didn't vote UKIP due to the media smear campaigns, but are now maybe seeing through the wool over their eyes are may vote for them in the generals next year.
I don't think pulling the race card just because they have a policy on immigration will work next time around. Incidentally the UKIP MEP elected from Leeds (who I voted for) is Asian born and Muslim. He is also a successful businessman, and if we want a strong economy we need to create conditions where businesses can thrive so it's no surprise he's standing for UKIP.
No surprise to see that UKIP's main donations come from businesses, whereas for Labour the main backers are trade unions which effectively drive away business as it just drives up costs for them massively if it's virtually impossible to lay off staff if the firm is struggling, or get rid of lazy/work shy staff. Businesses simply relocate elsewhere as a result.
Can't wait to vote UKIP again in the generals!

But do we think people will have the confidence to vote UKIP in the generals?
Don't forget, although it seems that UKIP took votes from across the board (including labour) it may give labour the chance to slip in the back door.
I personally would MUCH rather see the Tory's in again than labour.
It may of course be another hung election but would UKIP be willing to get in bed with the Tory's after seeing what happened to the lib dems?
IMO the best thing to do is just vote for the party you want in and let the rest unfold. I am not a fan of strategic voting so will be staying with UKIP.

Yes and let's not forget disgraced ex Tory MPs implicated in cash for questions scandals appointed to deputy chairman of UKIP
What's hilarious is that some people who hate the Tories have voted for a party that has somebody too corrupt and toxic to remain in the Tory party as their deputy chairman.
What sort of idiot would use that logic?

Plus you have to be a British citizen to vote in the first place

As I said the majority of Londoners are British, those that aren't, can't vote in our elections anyway
