Air lock?

OK. You may have had a airlock at some point, hairline crack in the radiator, dodgy pump, bodged coolant change, whatever.
The problem is that whatever has gone wrong causes the engine to overheat (even if the guage says its normal). The engine overheating will blow a head gasket....I guess through all this I assume you've been using the car, or running the engine to try and fix/diagnose it? The more its run in this state without being certain of coolant flow in the block/heads, the more risk that the head gaskets have been damaged - you see lack of coolant flow and overheating causes headgasket to fail.
So, whilst originally you may not have had a head gasket problem, its possible that you do now. Get the header tank checked for combustion gasses (hydrocarbons).

i would like to say thanks to those who tried to help but cant find the problem so have decided to get rid, just too much hassle, need a reliable car, not all this hassle! not a happy girl!
