Default Sober October

It is with much trepidation I announce that I'll be drying out in October! That's right, an entire month without an alcoholic drink!

Would you like to join me? I'm doing it to raise funds and awareness for The Fostering Network; so should you wish to help this tremendous cause please let me know. Alternatively, a donation of just 10p per day (£3.10 for the month) would be very gratefully received.

Thank you in anticipation,

JT

Thanks for that, Andy. I've paid £50 in to FN so far and have a monthly payment of £20 going in.

Wife and I did something similar in January only ours was nothing to drink except water. We raised a few hundered quid for the Beatson Cancer Charity

You'll be fine - giving up alcohol is easy. Its tea, coffee, and all the other non alcoholic drinks that were the hard part. We probably drink too much alcohol, but it was tea and coffee that were the killers to live without.

Good luck with it

Thank you so much, Hodgy! The fund's breached £500 now!! If you do join me perhaps you could badger your friends for a little sponsorship; just send them my page. And yes, Friday might get messy!

My self imposed abstinence is nearly at an end. The money I have not spent on booze I will give to my chosen interests

You lot.......

You do realise that if EVERYONE gives up drinking, the government will have such a hole in the taxation budget that income tax would have to rise substantially? Stop this madness now...

I don't see the point of giving anything to charity, if you new how much the people that run the company get paid you'd be shocked.

Would I? How much do you think the Welsh Director of Fostering Network gets paid?

It doesn't, Jeff, but as far as I know it's about £55k a year which is £150 a day take home. About the same as a plumber.

I've done work for charities and charged them nothing. I just find it annoying, when people are making money off a charities.

I agree with the sentiment about charities wasting money & not using resources to there best effect.

On that note I address all you people doing the Sober October & implore you to send all that unused alcohol to those in most need.

It's the nature of the beast though, unfortunately. Once any charity grows beyond a certain size, it would just be impossible for them to get everything done that they need to without hiring some full-time paid staff.

...and would that be for a FULL time role, or just to be a figurehead?
