Hi,

I managed to get a puncture to one of the rear tyres this morning on the way to work, by hitting a pot-hole pretty hard. It was hidden under a puddle, 9/10 on the Niagra scale for the splash though - so it's not all bad news!

I've got standard tyres on a MY01 WRX that've done 7500 miles - they look like there's plenty of tread left on them, and I don't seem to be suffering from undue wear on either side of the front tyres.

Do I get just the one tyre replaced with an identical one £100-£180

or get both rears replaced with something else, or swap them round and get the new fronts ?

Can this sort of puncture likely be repaired?

Cheers

Chris

I had same question when one of my rear toyo's got a large bit of glass in it. Was worried that putting on the spacer saver might screw the AWD system. Asked on here and basically you should be ok to replace just the one tyre, though I would suggest you take the car to tyre place and just get them to check the depths of the tyres. should be ok though.

Put it this way, I had the toyos on for at least 8 months and that's when I replaced the rear and I've not had any problems.

Markus,

Thanks for that.

ATS kindly knocked the dents out of the wheels for me for free - and fitted the space saver! - The tyre's fubar though.

Local guy's managed to source me a RE011 - noone else could get one.

Cheers

Chris

Question

A friend of mine had a very similar experiance in his Volvo V70R, he was told by his dealership that he would have to change both sides (front or back) so that the slight difference in tire sizes would not upset the diff. This could be a con by the dealership, but its law in Germany that right and left tires need replacing at the same time, so there maybe something in it!

Dont forget, you can always write to your council and complain about the state of the roads - I know of some people that have been given compensation. You never know!
