Liverpool playing for 4th at the turn of the year.... love it! I like Rafa and hope he stays. He looked like a man on the verge of a breakdown last night. So many average player bought. Only Torres is up to the job. top class player!

I know people like to knock SG, he is after all one of two world class players in that side, but the ball came of mascherano. Good finish from Bramble tho.

Plan was to use the wide men to open up what would have been a defensive rear guard from Wigan. Leaving one up with SG behind was not such a bad idea, given that they're out best striking options at the moment.

On the subject of average players, yep there are a few that he's bought, but then he's never had the money like Chelski or Manure have had. Players like Pennant, Kuyt, Josemi, Kronkamp, even Benayoun were not his first choice players, but you can only buy against the finances you're allocated. And before anyone bangs on about how much he has spent, think about net before bleating out figures.

I think a couple of very good wide men, Kewell and Pennant are not good enough and another top class striker would make us serious challengers.

I can't see Chelski winning it this year, having said that sure Grant is overdue a few hundred million to spend.

Good to see Torres coming through, one that Taggart let slip!

Not the sharpest are you?

You reasoned that Liverpool are in the position that they are in because they only have average players because they have no money unlike United and Chelsea.

Well Arsenal haven't spent that much yet they are top of the league.

How many 'import youngsters' has Rafa brought in recently?

Out of that number, how many have made it close to the first team squad?

I'll help you out:

Nikolay Mihaylov
Gary Mackay Steven
Lucas Leiva
Sebastian Leto
Charles Itandje
Mikel San Jose
Alex Cooper
Emiliano Insua
Nabil El Zhar
Miki Roque

Lucas has played a few games, but that's about it.

Who else am I missing?

I'd say that was bang on.

Not only have you wasted remarkable amounts on sub-standard 'top' players (all of which were, at one time or another, hailed as the last piece of the jigsaw, the 'corner turning' signing), but Rafa's been pulling foreign youngsters from every source possible, trying to replicate Arsenal's success.

Sadly, you simply don't have the knack to be able to continue their development.

It'll be good to see how many actually come through - I'd expect one, maybe two.

I'll reword - how many are in the squad (of what, 42?) and have made pushes for selection?

You must admit that Rafa has gone a tad wild in trying to replicate Arsenal's policy, yet has very, very little to show for it.
