24K?? - You've done well mate!

I'm in the same boat UK MY00 16" wheels, now changing (at 10K) for something with better wet handling.

I'm going for Bridgestone S02's, as recommended for wet grip by a few peeps on this BBS (as per previous threads.)

Personally I would recommend fitting 17" (if its an option). Just did that a week ago and the limit in the wet for the Toyos (maybe the 16" are as good, don't know) is massively higher than the standard tyres.
Rich, 10K (never mind 24K) would have been nice from the std tyres, 4.5k and 2mm of tread left, so it was time to change.

After 24K my MY00 tyres are completely shot and I need some replacements pretty quickly. What recoomendations can anyone give me - obviously living in the godforsaken hell hole that Britain has become I need something that is good in the wet.

The car has the standard 16 inch wheels and being a lease car has to stay that way, but also being a lease car the cost of the tyres is not too much of a problem so let's have your recommendations.

Unfortunately I have to stick with the 16 inch wheels - lease car rules I'm afraid.

The Toyo's you mention - what is the full model number for the tyre as presumably the 16 inch should be as good (if they make one that is).

I think I managed 24K as a lot of my driving is motorway work. I was recommended they be changed at 20K so they're seriously bad now (hence the urgnecy). In fact wet weather driving is quite amusing as it reminds me of my first few cars when I had virtually no money and had to buy cheap remoulds or part worns with very little proper grip.

I'd suggest Bridgestone SO2 Pole Positions (PP). A good price would be around £100 each incl. Remember that there are 2 types - PP & er.. NOT PP. The PP's are better.

I fitted Goodyear Eagle F1's to my MY99 and have not regreted it. The level of grip is much better in the dry and bl00dy amazing in the wet than the Bridgestone 010's fitted as standard the 010's lasted me 17K and started to tramline at about 13k. my F1's have done 17k, no tramlining and they still feel fresh and have about another 3k or so left in 'em.

IMHO - I will go for another set unless someone can come up with a better option and i seriously doubt the F1's will be bettered.

Really, the level of grip in the wet if the Dog's.

Mine cost about £ 90.00 per corner, fitted inc. from Tyres Norfampton.

One thing - I had a leased Civic VTI and i was given a limited list of tyres that i could have for it. Ironically i ended up with Michelin MXVII Pilots (i think). They where good tyres in all conditions - cost was something like £ 160.00 each for 195/50/15V form their contracted fitters. I could have shopped around and saved 'em £ 30.00 per tyre.

Worth checking with the leasing comopany to see wat ya can have.

Congratulations on getting 24K out of your tyres.
Mine were shot after 11K.
I'd recommend SO-2 PP.
Some people love 'em and others don't.
Then there is the fact that Bridgestone don't recommend them for a 16 inch wheel.
It's a long story with plenty of coverage on here.
Having said that there are lots of us with SO-2 PP on 16 inch wheels who are very happy with them.
Just done a meet in North Wales ( very wet )
and was very impressed.
Don't expect anything special for the first 1000 miles.
Prices vary from £100 to £150 a corner.

Hi Tiggers
I've got a my00, 9.5k and new tyres already, I went for the Toyo proxes T1S. I've only had them about 3-4 days, so I can't really vouch for how good they are in the dry,(cos it ain't stopped bl88dy raining since I got them) but in the wet they seem pretty good, and whats more they only cost me £340 for a set.
Can't be bad!

At least I now have a short list. Anyway it's off to see what the lease company will let me have (thanks for the pointer Paul - I hadn't thought of that) - hopefully they won't be fussy.
