hopefully we can post the info up from todays straightliners rwyb so people can fill their spec list in for their scooby who ran, to give people an idea of the noise levels generated.
all the cars were tested today, and only 2 scoobs failed initially out of all the cars there. both managed to pass when retested later having fitted their bungs in place/warmed up the car fully. test limit for the rwyb and will be same for scoobyshootout is 105db static. once passed, there is no further test/drive by limit.

to start off, i know steven Darleys car passed at 103db. I dont know their spec, i'm sure steven can fill in details.

the other scoobs i tested myself were competitor no's
415; result 95db backbox only
402; 92db-full decat, 3" downpipe, 2.5" SYSTEM, resonated centre section, prodrive backbox.
305; 101db- full decat and 3"exhaust system
211; 95db- std ish
210; 109 db initially then 105.9db with bung in place, allowed to race as within +-1db. full race spec system.
209; 107db initially, engine /zaust were cold still. got car upto working temp and passed at 104db.

a couple of the above were scoobynetters and i have asked them to post up their spec as they had de-cat and 3" exhausts and passed ok.

also tested today just for info
Evo6 with Blitz Nur system and decat 102db
R34 GTR with HKS system 104.8db

hopefully once a couple of the above fill in their spec of exhaust people can see what theirs may be like. it was noticed that having the car fully warmed up lowered by upto 4db the noise level.

for SSO the limit will as above be 105db at 4,500rpm, which shouldnt be a problem for the vast majority of scoobs. anyone who wants a test done foc can go to the next straightliner rwyb (bike day) in 2 weeks time at elvington and get the car checked properly, if worried. if your car is "very/noticeably" loud, its worth doing so.

Please note that this limit at present is for rwyb drag and scoobyshootout events, there may well be alternative limits in place for totb.

Exhaust wise
Lateral performance 3 bolt unequal length headers, and up pipe
Lateral Full 3" Stainless downpipe, centre and back box, with just a silencer in the back box.

My test was done by the Elvington events guy @ 4500 rpm, and as you say, recorded 103db.

Not too dissimilar John, only the rear silencer. Do you have a DB meter at your work?

No, our cars have no silencers, just 9 litres of ear splitting pain. :D

I may be able to test it on thursday at Oulton Park though.

to be fair I didnt think stevens exhaust was that quiet, but then in the car I didnt think it was that bad..

In a wierd kind of way I think the same exhaust setup would be much louder on my car.

Ours was the Newage Impreza (No 210) that failed the first initial sound meter test which then passed second time round once i had installed my Bung.

The Exhaust spec is

Equal Length Jap spec Manifold with Up-pipe
Open Neck Downpipe 3 (inch)
Blitz Nurspec-R Full exhaust system (3inch) (DECAT) with 4.5 Inch Tailpipe.

at Goodwood last weekend my car passed the 98db test at 4650 rpm with a H&S 3" downpipe, revolution 3" centre and silencer and three bolt headers/up pipe.
not entirely relevent, but may give some pointers to those looking to keep the noise down for events...?

I was competitor 402. You need to correct the description, I have a full decat 3" inch downpipe 2.5" for the rest and a resonated centre section, prodrive back box.

I think K&R Performance was meaning the Straightliners Round 1 Event which was held yesterday. This is a RWYB event which is Pay and Go.

However Scooby Shootout is a Pre-pay event so it is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to make sure the exhaust is within limits. I reckon this is the reason ChrisTOTB has started this discussion to make competitors aware of the situation and to show examples of what exhaust specs passed and which did'nt.

as above, info for scoobyshootout specifically to help people gauge if their car will pass and help them enter, as its a pre entered event.

the rwyb yesterday was 105db static, at 4,500rpm, taken 0.5m from exhaust tip at 45degrees.

no drive by, no other testing done. same test as above will apply to sso.

specifically for sso at elvington before the racing starts all the cars will be driven down to a formal noise test area away from the pitlane, so no external/other noise influence from cars revving engines etc. cars will all be tested individually at that time without holding people up etc. cars can then return to pitlane and queue ready to race. this also gives cars the chance to be warmed up fully, making it a little easier anyway on noise.

straightliners will be providing proper calibrated meters and 2 staff to do so who are conversant with testing, as they are required to do, test takes 30secs per car or so. as with yesterday, their people were very helpful and did all they could to ensure people got a fair and true test, hence 99% of people passed ok.

the sso entry forms went up with the information we had as correct at the time. i was asked to post a 105db static at 4000rpm for this event.

there has been some confusion in the info given to us,as to if it should be 4000, or 4,500rpm, but because the event doesnt fall under msa rule, then external guidance was sought. there is still some ongoing discussion as to potentially higher limits being applicable anyway, but for sso the safest option was to post the lower 105db limit on the form with the info we had at that time.

we tested a couple of cars anyway at both 4 and 4,5k revs yesterday and the difference was less than 1db on those cars tested.

so there you have it in essence, for sso its a 105db @ 4,500rpm static. i shall now ammend the entry form to be precise. thats still very generous limits, compared to any track venue like donnington, combe, silverstone etc. free noise tests at the next bike meet at elvington for any scoobs who may be worried, just turn up on the day. if the other scoobs who ran yesterday can also add their info i'll update the thread.

After looking through the rule book and quick dash home for bung(good job only live 5 mins away) eventually passed and had an excellent day....
now i have chopped up by back box and repacked it with baffle pack...and ready for the next time!
