Interesting question for you all..

There have been many posts on this board about the difference in quality between various suppliers of fuel. The feeling is that the fuel at the supermarket pumps is generally deemed to be of lower quality.

I've been watching the news reports today and watched all kinds of tankers come out from the same depots (BP, Texaco, Q8, Tesco etc). So, unless these companies all have their own infrastructure within the fuel depots, surely they must be drawing from the same supply?

If that's the case is there really that much difference between the stuff you buy at Shell / BP etc and the stuff you buy at the supermarket/ independent supplier?

Personally speaking I always use regular 95 Oct UL and have filled up at a variety of suppliers without noticing a great difference.

Not trying to start a great debate here, just curious really.

It is all down to additives

 

If all the stations have run dry, what will happen when they refill the tanks. Will it disturb sediment on the bottom of the tank? I do not want to clog my engine.

Seperate Note: When the stations do get fuel panick buying will empty them almost as quick as before Bring that price down you ****ing homosexual.

Back on topic. You're right it has been on this board oodles of times. Do a search on it and you will find the explanation from someone who works in that business. It is indeed all down to local additives it seems.

Right then, there is no sediment in underground fuel tanks. They are dipped and tested on a regular basis.
Everytime a tank is filled the fuel enters the tank through a internal pipe which sits 4" from the bottom of the tank, it doesn`t matter whether the tank is 1/2 full or empty it still disturbs the fuel that is lying at the bottom. This internal pipe acts as a vapour fuel trap as the internal suction piework draws the fuel 2" above the bottom of the internal fill pipe.
So dont worry, your grade quality won`t change!
