I drive a MY98 UK Turbo with standard suspension.Would like to carry out some mods to reduce body roll,maybe reduce understeer and just generally improve upon the standard handling. I dont want anything to extreme as i wont be going on a track with it so its for fast road use only-also,dont want the ride to much firmer! from looking at this site it seems that a good set-up for my needs would be;
whiteline adj rear arb (22mm??)
droplinks (all round , i presume??)
bumpsteer mod
geometry re-set/allign
should i get front arb as well? is it best to get alloy droplinks? what is a bumpsteer mod???!!!
any other suggestions?
how much is it likely to cost supplied and fitted and does it increase insurance? hope someone can give me some advice as my knowledge of these mods is low as you have no doubt gathered! thanks

I've done most of the mods you have listed there and have put spme of them on individually to see what effect each one had. Heres what I did.

1st mod: Powerflex rear drop links.
Didnt think I would feel any difference with just the drop links fitted but was really surprised how it made the turn in feel better and reduced some understeer too.

2nd mod: Whiteline Adjustable 22mm rear ARB [ mid setting ]
What can I say - totally transformed the body roll and reduced understeer even more. I reckon this is a must have !

Both of the above mods are easy DIY changes - only 4 bolts and takes no time at all !

I then put 18'' wheels on, the ride is harsher, but I like the handling with these [ and styling ! ]

Finally:
A trip to Powerstation
Had the bumpsteer mod [ basically shims to prevent the front wheels moving under heavy braking etc.. ] - this is very noticeable on big stops as you no longer have to fight the wheel to keep the car straight !
Also - Whiteline ALK and 4 wheel alignment.
Car feels much better through the corners with these two mods. It just keeps on gripping. Understeer has virtually disappeared ( well in the dry anyway ! )

I have not done anything with the front ARB / drop links as am happy with the handling as it is - though have thought about trying it just to see. But I dont want to reintroduce understeer by stiffening up the front.

Costs for all this - Id estimate £400-£450, but well worth it.

 

Sounds a sensible approach to me.
PowerStation do seem to be 'king of the hill' on what you need for a nice road car.
IMHO i think the front bar should go on with the rear, but pleanty of happy people out there with the rear only.

Great stuff, go for it, you really wont regret it at all, worth tons of BHP.

Trying to get my head around what suspension mods to do. A lot of people are suggesting rear arb's only. If you had front and rear arb's fitted with the alloy droplinks would that make the car too 'aggressive' for road driving only? Just wondering what to do next with the Scoob and as 911 says, chassis, suspension (and brakes) are worth a lot of bhp! Cheers.

You need to keep the car's real purpose in mind.
For me the car is a serious hill climb car, road driven 3000 miles a year from April to October.
It is well got at, can be ok on the road, but tiresome as a daily driver IMHO.

If you have a daily driver/holiday/shopping car, then the mods below will do the trick:

Rear bar and links on middle setting
Power Station type set-up
Rest of chassis in good condition (Sti suspension would be nice on a UK Turbo car)
Decent brake pads (assuming 4 pots on front)
Good tyres.

I should think this woud be a good daily chassis, and fun on your own.
