I think that the concensus is that the Peak Tours are a fantastic day out judging by the response to the vote pole on another thread and there has also been a mixed bag of responses from my comments on there to!
Anyway as promised, lets get some ideas on how we could organise ourselves just a little better in an attempt to avoid incidents like that of Sunday and in previous outings.
I must say that Marv, Paul, Charlie Whiskey etc have done a brilliant job of arranging these events, lets just try and be a bit safer and go home in our cars eh ?
1. Radio Use was one . The leader must have one ? - Is there a standard radio that everyone is buying ???
2. Good Navigators to lead groups.
3. Stop the use of 'The fast Group' - As it has been said they are all pretty fast anyway.
4. Leader of the group dictating a sensible pace.
5. Groups organised in driver ability or as close as we can get !
6. Organise viewing of certain sections - although personally I think we should just get on with what we are doing within our own group rather than watching others.
7. Make sure that there is always a good few car lengths between you in case of sudden barking on these sometimes unpredictable and tricky roads
Anyway lets get our heads around this and come up with some good ideas that we could try on the next one
I'll try and gather the points into one post as they come in so that they can be seen at a glance

We use radios on all our runs and find them invaluable. We try to scatter the usage throughout the group so the word is spread right to the back. They have a number of uses:
- warning of impending hazzards at the front e.g. walkers, cyclists, poor road conditions, sheep!
- advanced warning of ideal overtaking opportunities to keep group together
- spotting of totty and general p1sstakes/banter

Two or three different routes between the stops might be an idea. It would help to prevent the bottlenecks, such as the tunnel incident. These could even be along the lines of 'scenic' (include photo stops if appropriate/clear weather), 'challenging' (more twisties), or even 'direct' (straight to the lunch stop for those who fancy the meet, but not the drive)
I know how much work I put into doing one route, do you really want me to spend 3 times as much effort doing multiple ones?
The only time I have ever done an alternative is when doing Muppet Camp, where some people may want to get there without going for a taz around the countryside. But most people did the 'fun' route so I don't bother any more.

any UK legal (non license) radio should be fine Steve. Admittedly- some dont have sub channel ability. (which can be useful to avoid cabbie chatter)
I would recommend VOX capable (handsfree) radios for solo drivers.. or give the radio to the navigator if there is one..
Without radios it becomes very hard to keep together.. even more so if someone isnt happy with the pace and drops back..
Nearly ALL the radios I have seen in shops and the net have at least two handsets. Lend the spare/s out if poss.. the p1ss taking banter is worth the outlay, let alone the practical uses- hazard warning etc.
I would vote for no stopping too until defined lunch breaks etc.
Stopping wastes time and light

'Twas only a suggestion...
The scenic/direct thoughts only came to me because on the tour I passed a Scooby who'd had a bit of an incident... passenger being desperately ill in the backseat.
Maybe these routes could just be plotted from a map/local knowledge?

Has to be said eskimo Bruce is pretty super human.
I went up for a play on the snake and bakewell area yesterday...
(got up too late to join you dazza
)
Was bloody PACKED with slow dawdling to55ers.. and was surprised at how many plod we saw too..
Did a MAD 'off piste' route from
B5054 Onecote>
Warslow (AWESOME ascending hairpins just before Warslow)
>Longnor
>Crowdecote
>B5055to Monyash
then bakewell (and some Tea and Tart
....
Was GREAT
Way too hairy and narrow for a scooby day though (unless there were <3 cars for each group) hazards r us too..
Our navigation went t1ts up soon after Wirksworth- but to the wife's credit she just called out the above names and I punched em into the Ipaq as we went (if it could find the target village!) , or she called the turns via the big map... and it was great fun.
Gotta mention the ROCK INN in Upper Hulme (Staffs) - Great food (amazing fillet steak!- and pretty cheap too) with a hell of a view..
Snake pass was unfortunately DULL
slimy, and very very busy...
..and as for the A628/A616 - what a TW@T for SPECS cameras
must have been five concurrent sets...
needless to say I went into zombie mode annoying all the rep's /chavs as they went flying by .. meanwhile my Road Angel was going mental
Ticket's for them- not me

Great Roads
I don't think they are too narrow though (all over 4m wide) & I have used some of those on runs before without problems (Staffs Treasure Hunt & Soft Southern Shandy Drinkers Alton Towers weekend)

That bit from Warslow to Longnor is best going south as it's a bit more predictable, it's lethal coming north

Best road up there IMHO is Mooridge from the A523 to A515, although the rest of them ain't half bad

I feel a Tour o'Staffs coming on...
yeah Mooridge!

the warslow> longnor was GREAT
;maybe Im just a masochist? - oh, and I didnt get held up by any numpties
so that helps bias my view
the narrow bits were the 1 in 10 single track 'shortcuts' to monyash provided by the Ipaq
when it said "sharp right" it wasnt kidding!!!! 1st gear, and a 3 point turn on full lock! (UK steering rack)
lucky nothing was coming!
Either that or we would have been airborne for a good 80ft or so
