Thinking of changing my 200SX for one of these, I have a hankering for some retro classic RWD business. esp in black and white. Yum
Anyone ever have one before? I want to know what to look for.

I would love one of these too but they are just so rare and they are pretty expensive

 

If you think they are expensive in the UK, you should come over to Ireland where some mint 1987 rwd twin cam are looking for the equivalent of £8000..

 

that's why all the decent english ones ended up over there

 

RWD and FWD twin cams have been a big thing in Ireland for years and alot of good ones were bought years ago and are now coming into value, well over here anyway. I used to own a FWD Corolla gti twin cam and they are a cracking car, excellent car if the body is minded.
If you are seriously interested in a mint one, well then you should buy one in Ireland as the good ones are restored to excellent condition and no expense spared. On the other hand I don't know how you could justify anything near that money for an 1987 car.

 

My ex used to have a black one (rwd), then he got a cossie, but has just imported a white ae86 (might have a black bonnet, not sure though) from japan. It comes out of the garage this week!
Have to say they are blindin cars and i hope he takes me out for a ride in it.

 

And heres me thinking that people in the UK had no interest in them cars...nice one....

Astraboy - you got an S13 or S14? cos am hoping to get an S14a myself.

 

I navigate in Road Navigation Rallies in one. Good, reliable cars. Tonnes of rot though....my driver had to do quite a bit of welding. Not that powerful though and can't really get the back end out on tarmac (lsd as standard, i think)....goes like a dream on loose/grass!

We give it a really good hammering down rough tracks (and i mean rough...stuff only farmers use) and it never breaks.

Mr driver paid £1500 for his 6 years ago. Personally, I don't think they are worth the amounts people pay and i wouldn't go from a 200sx to an AE86. Never been in a 200 though.

 

Dont they normally sell in the Uk for around £4000 anyways?
top cars though, but not worth that sort of money.

I know the first one my ex had cost him £1000. Think he bought it in 2000/2001.

Have no idea how much his jap import cost him though.

Great car in the wet, oversteer on demand and drifting ability was superb, never driven such a balanced car, steer on the throttle basically....

Sold it as in the dry it needed more power. The 4A-GE is a cracking engine, bullet proof but you need to spend money on a Supercharged or 20v Conversion if you want to enjoy it in the dry IMO

 

my friend took me out in his uk turbo tuned to around 290bhp and took me out in his gt coupe, the buzz was bigger off the coupe tho, but he's selling it now if anyones after a mint one not sure what price he wants but has been done up with all fensport bushes etc and sticks to road great!

I managed to track down one of these about 4 months ago - went to see it with a view to buying it. It was great fun to drive - but unfortunately this one was a little tatty round the edges. The guy wanted 3K for it. If it wasn't for the respray (badly done) I would have had it as a project.

I've seen good ae86s on the trader for about 4.5K - if you ring they are usually in IR. I did find one in cornwall for £1400 - but the poor lady selling had in excess of 30 calls in the first day.

Ultimate for me would be a trueno (???) in white/black, good dampers, supercharged 4A-GE engine from the Mk1 MR2 (or an sr20det from the s14 nissan), twin plate lsd and a cage.

Still hope to own one at some point.

 

Yep I had one D 386 something.. can't remember now.

Red and black, 68000 miles when I got hold of it by swapping it for an ex-army 500cc trial bike - 'cos it had been into a tree sideways and was "a bit bent"

Spent £600 to fix it, did 20000 miles in 6 months, loved every minute of it.

Then it started to fall to bits - inner wings rotted away, all the arches went beneath the plastic covers... so I sold it to a guy who flew over from Ireland and gave me £1400 cash for it at Trowel services on the M1, then drove it home That must have been in about 1994..

Wish I'd looked after it properly, but then I was only 22 and I had a sports car - so I drove it as fast as I dared and forgot to maintain it

Yeah - thats the classic 'Initial D' look.

A few people have picked up ae86 cars for the still in its infancy UK drift scene - and sometimes not got on with them. I think the s13 and s14 cars are easier to get on with for most as its far easier to spin up the rears on the turbo cars. The ae86 std is much harder work.

I would so love one.

For drifting some other slightly retro jap sports coupes make ideal cars - My brother is currently looking at an r32 GTS (just RWD 2L straight six turbo) for the job - it should be great fun.

 

Classic looking car. Iconic if you play too much Gran Turismo, as when you start its more or less the only car you have enough money to buy! Have never driven one myself, but would really like a classic black and white one - with maybe a carbon bonnet!

Talking of Initial D, i've been trying to track a DVD down, any ideas/recommendations?

Was on hols in Cornwall and there was one stuck behind a garage we were noseying at, my uncle had located an old Jowett that he was looking at and I clocked this black Corolla Coupe behind there, dont know if it was for sale, looked pretty good but obvously had been stood a few weeks.
