Question Strange reciprocal vibration in a punto - help

Given the vast combined knowledge of cars here I thought I'd ask this because I'm confused and she's worried about it.

The girlfriends punto (55S) has developped a strange vibration, you can feel it from 20mph or so and it just gets worse, feels like it is going to shake itself apart once over 70mph, not that you'd want to do much more in the car!

Initially thought it was very badly out of balence wheels (fronts presumably), so had them done. They wern't good, improved when the original weights were taken off(???!!!) and are now fine.

As a rotational thing there aren't that many things that it could be. I thought of thaking it to a tyre place that does on car balencing to see if that can track it down.

Any other thoughts or suggestions gratefully received.

Engine mount gone? We've replaced the rear subframe bushes on our 1996 55SX, but that was just causing a lot of thumps and bangs when going over bumps, it wasn't vibrating.

Check the tyres themselves for any bulges or signs of damage, also have a look at the driveshafts and bearings.

Try swapping tyres front to back, are they the std steel wheels or aftermarket alloys if alloys have they got the spiggot rings)? - im sure when I had my puntos I saw something like this on the puntosports forum and it was linked to a drive shaft?

Hubs, wheel bearings, driveshafts most likely cause, or as said engine mount.
