Tyres ????
Without reserecting the age old arguement! ;-) - what Tony says is very true both on the A520 performance and durability - but by shopping around you can get Bridgestone S-02s for about 450-480 fitted (or lowlier B'stones for cheaper) which whilst you are unliekly to use their performance advantage on a non-turbo, should last longer. Depends how flush you are at the moment!
Yes, I missed the cheap bit.
Yoko A520's are cheap, but think out it a little. A friend of mine once said that there are only 2 things you need to do when driving -
1. Don't hit anything
2. Stay on the black bits
Both of these rely on your tyres!

Hello
I'm just try today the Avon ZZ1 and i think they are no good :-(
Then, the Monday i try the GoodYear F1 in 225. In my Rover 220 Coupe (without Turbo) this tyres are very good for dry and i think excelent under water.
Anyone can tell me anything about this 2 tyres?
Thanks in advance and regards.

Hi All,
Was running A520's on my WRX but they were due replacement (they wear too quickly, even with my driving style).
Now shod in Toyo T1-S tyres. As good as grip in the dry as the Yoko's but wet grip is awesome. Much, much better than the A520s. Also wear rates are a lot lower.
These tyre companies talk a lot of crap about their tyres, but the T1-S is the first tyre I have had that lives up to the claims. Aquaplaning is now non-existant.
And the cost is very reasonable.
Oh, and they look quite nice too. ;-)
And I can get locally.
Cheers

Hi All
I am running on A520's. I was quite happy with them until I went to MIRA wet handling circuit. I was still happy with them all day until I got into an STi with (i think) P zero's on.
I am not exagerating when I say that this thing had much much much more grip in the wet than mine had in the dry.
I was shocked to say the least!
Cheers

Mike,
Thanks for the correction!
Your dead right, it was Phil's car.
Wish I had come out in your car as well now to see the difference. All I know for sure is that A520's are toilet!!
Pretty much zero grip in the wet.
Just had some more put on today

I realise this. I was merely illustrating that you get what you pay for. I was happy with the A520's and probably would have been until I experienced a far superior tyre. Until then, I would not have beleived the difference. Thought this may have been of interest to someone.

BTW I'll be replacing my 7k miles SO2's soon. Even though they have 4mm tread on the fronts, the shoulders are nearly bald & the tyres feel "off" now.
I'll be replacing them with a full set of the new Yoko AVS Sports & will post my thoughts on them should anyone be interested.

Without wishing to cause offence, but i thought the A520 was a performance tyre.
How many family cars run 205/40/17's ZR rated then? Thats what i had on my Mk2 Gti
I have used Yoko's since about 1990!
Its grandaddy was the A509, then replaced by the A510 and out popped the A520.
I had them on my Golf and also had AVS's on a Golf before that. They were all crap in the wet - Always have been - always will be! IMHO
The A520 is more of a wet weather tyre than the AVS.
My mate swears by his Bridgestones in the wet and once my P-Zeros' wear out, i'll be getting them too!

I wrote my car off in March with A520`s on it, they had been on for 500 miles, I had changed from the original michelin pilots.
It was wet and the car broke away very badly , spinning three times in less than 100 metres collecting a lamp post on the way.
I`m not going to blame the tyres but i have been around the same corner many times before in the wet with the michelins and faster too,the car would drift a little but nothing too alarming.
I wont be buying yoko A520`s again put it that way.

Can anyone shed any light on these Yokos Ive got on my import?
They were fitted when the car got here.
They are Yokohama Advan Neova's.
They're sided too, so you must need to buy a Left or Right.
Anyway, has anyone bought them over here? How much (fortunes I expect) and are they any good...they must be because Top Secret use them on the 1000Bhp Skylines!!
Thanks, Richie Coulson.

Hi Richie.
Uni directional tyres the Neovas are. Its not available in the UK as of yet so I suspect you are one of the few in the country using them. Its a high performance road tyre from the yoko range. I have them on my car and find that it an excellent performer. The side walls are abit soft but gives good feedback as a result. Grip is excellent.
What do think of them?
malique.

I was quoted 106,000 Yen (640 GBP) for four 16 inch Yokohama Advans -- which are top of the Yokohama range -- at a petrol service station this afternoon. And 80,000 Yen (480 GBP) for MR7's (I think that they were called) the next in the range. The Advans grip pattern is a lot more kakkou ii. ("Cool" in Japanese.)
