Friday night

Aproach roundabout and stop to give way. Pull out of the roundabout and get halfway round then the back left tyre blows and i take out the rear off side of my car on some stupid roundabout sign. I am gutted. You can have a fast good handling car but if your tyre blows what can you do. I guess its a lesson to me to always check my tyres. Anyway whats with having those roundabout signs telling us that there is a sharp bend, of course there is a sharp bend its a bl**dy roundabout.

My friend who has a skyline had a similar incident a while back- Under inflated tyre...Popped through a roundabout in Bramhall and the tyre went. Lost it and clipped a curb causing him to wreck a wheel. It cost him £700.00 in all. New wheel, sorting suspension/tracking e.t.c.

Sorry to hear about your incident - it is easy to be caught out by a slow puncture. At least you weren't going too fast when you lost control.

I am experimenting with a real-time remote pressure and temperature sensing device (SmartTire), which I hope will enable me to find the optimum pressures for my car and driving style (and keep an eye out for punctures).

The unit allows you to alarms for under-inflation and over-temperature withn user adjustable thresholds)

It is interesting to see how much of an increase in pressure and temperature you get once the tyres are warmed up. I find that if I notice a slight difference in feel, I can usually see a corresponding change in the readings.

I'll post some more info when I've collated results, but a high speed cruise will generate over 110 degrees f contained air temperature, and the pressure at the front rises from 33psi to 41!. I wonder what it would climb to on-track?
