Nacro - the Leon TDI150 Cupra4 has been out for yonks in continental europe. 4wd is heavier (150 odd kg) than 2wd varient that UK is getting.

Quite pricey IMHO, but still circa £3K cheaper than a Golf 150TDI. Easy remap to 190bhp / 300+ lbs.ft.

Faster therefore than a std 180 petrol once remapped, which ain't scooby quick, but ain't known as a slug either.

Just for nacro I'll point out that even in std tune it'll be as quick as the 180 petrol in "real world" conditions

Bit more £ than the 130, but you do get the (slightly "heavy" bodykit, 17" wheels & interior bits & bobs on the cupra.

Worth it? That's up to you

Oil-burning Cupra joins Leon range
Presaging the upcoming oil-burning Fabia vRS and Ibiza Cupra models, Seat has dropped a torquey Volkswagen-group turbodiesel into the Leon hatchback, bringing the total number of Cupra-badged models in the range to three. Of the Cupra models, the diesel is slowest to 60mph, managing the sprint in 8.7 seconds (Cupra 20V: 7.7sec; Cupra R: 7.2sec) and slowest overall, with a top speed of 134mph compared with 142mph and 150mph for the petrol models. Still, the 150bhp 1.9 TDi PD is the most powerful oil-burner in the Seat stable, and nestles into the range above the 130bhp Pumpe-Duse 1.9. Of course, the petrol Cupras can't return anywhere near as much as 52.3mpg on the combined cycle...

Diesel Cupras receive the same very high level of specification as on the petrol performance Leons, including standard climate control, sports seats, six-disc CD changer, ABS brakes (but not the Cupra R's Brembo items), and 17in alloys. The £16000 Leon TDi PD Cupra costs £500 more than the 180bhp petrol Cupra, and £2000 less than the 225bhp version. That price includes one year's road tax, two years' unlimited mileage warranty, three year/60,000-mile warranty, 12 years anti-perforation warranty and five years' Europe-wide roadside assistance.

 

Depends how fast you want to go really, like all these cars the diesel models offer a good blend of price/performance but as quick as the petrol variants.........not really.

Interestingly a Leon,badged as Cupra, (but a diesel) tried it on with me yesterday on my way back from the mountains. Over about 15-20 miles of deserted mixed roads, varying from narrow to dual carriageway sweepers. My car a remapped Impreza turbo blew it into the weeds needless to say but it couldn't shake of an elderly Mondeo whic was following it. Not so quick but as I say good VFM.

 

When's the new model Leon out, the A3 is out and the Golf is imminnent. Sounds like they're just adding toys for the run out model?

 

Didnt some mag say that the 130 was a better drive than the 150 tdi? something to do with the delivery of power?
Id stick with the 130 or the 110, they normally have plenty of torque to keep you going, and the tdi's fetch a better price than their petrol counterparts

Ray_li -> the difference in price there is because its a different car, thats just the std TDI, not the Cupra.

really the value of this car will be better known when we see what REVO etc can come up with in the way of a remap

 

So to recap the TDI Leon is a pretty slow car, if you get the petrol and remap that it will be quicker.

The 150 unit has been about for ages - even in the Leon on he continent.

Upsolute, Revo etc all have remaps available for this engine - circa 190bhp and 300+ lbs.ft.

Nacro - I think what you are trying to say is that :- if you take two cars with similar performance, then the faster one will be the fastest. If you remap one however to make it faster, you'll make it a bit faster.

 

No what I'm trying to say is that you can buy 2 versions of the same car for similar prices. You can then remap both versions and the one with the petrol power plant will be the faster car.

naro - of course the petrol will be faster, but the diesel will be more economical. Its just horses for courses

 

GTI, all the Makro prices are excluding VAT so they're not quite as cheap as you might hope!

And expect the company to tell a few fibs on certain motors/specs. They claimed to have the Focus RS for some £3k saving but, funnily enough, nobody could ever manage to get one. Now they've "stopped" selling it, they told a friend they sold quite a few. Hmm, I don't think so!
