To a certain extent, the device works through obscurity. If everyone knows how it works, it can be bypassed. Please can people refrain from posting technical information on the system - ask your clifford dealer if you want to know more!

I would recommend that the unit is fitted by a VSIB-accredited installer. Additionally, someone who has fitted units before to Imprezas would be useful. I would not think that Subaru dealers are the right people to do this, as I do not know any that are experienced with Clifford.

It does not interface with the existing alarm, it is stand alone. It does not interfere with the immobilisation circuitry of the original alarm so does not cause any thatcham problems IMHO when stand alone. The unit is not thatcham approved as there is not thatcham category for anti-hijack devices

Similarly, insurance companies don't give discounts for it. However, it is simply wonderful for peace of mind!

Hie thee hither to a clifford dealer for a demo of how effective this is, and then get one fitted sharpish! They're bloody excellent and great value for money

Just for those who aren't aware most of our high-end alarm systems are equiped with the blackjax feature, for those requiring an alarm as well.

I've heard lots of people talking about BlackJax, but I don't know anything at all about it.
Could some one fill me in please?

- Does it interface to the Standard Sigma M30 system?
- How easy is it to fit? What's involved in fitting it?
- How does it work?
- Do I need one?!

It is a totally separate system. It works by you having to enter a code each time you drive the car or when driving if a door is opened, if this is not done then after a few seconds (40ish) it will kill the engine, flash the indicators and sound the horn/siren. So if you get dragged out when driving or if someone nicks your keys they wont get too far before all this happens.

 

So, if I open the door (to close a gate or something), it's going to stop my engine in 40 seconds?
Not sure I like the sound of this!

 

It part of a Clifford alarm.

When you initially get in the car you will unarm the alarm as usual, get in the car, shut the door, start the engine and type your code into the code thingy. This enables you to drive of without the engine cutting out. If you get out of the car with the engine running to ‘shut the gate’ you will have to re enter the code as u have opened the door.

The door acts as the switch.

Say if you get jacked at the lights, the thief will open the door, drag u out and drive off without entering the code, the car will the cut out about 200yds further down the road if he hasn’t crashed it by then!!

To clarify the operation of "Blackjax".
When entering your vehicle and starting or if system sees door open at any point, you will need to enter a code. Failure to do this will start a 30sec countdown, after which the siren will chirp 4 times to remind you to enter your code. failure to do this will start another countdown preparing for hijack procedure, brake lights begin to flash to alert other drivers vehicle may stop. £0 seconds later the siren will be set off and if speed/revs meet a programmed level will kill the engine. if programmed levels aren't met alarm will continue to sound and engine will cut when requirements are met. The system is designed to get the vehicle and hijacker a safe distance from you then secure the car.

Presumably it has to interface to engine management and security systems, to provide all of that functionality, which sounds complicated.
