Thumbs up

Well,

I think me and mrs hippy are about to part chop our Punto GT Turbo for a 2 seat soft top. I was thinking along the lines of a cappucino but they are just a bit too small.

So...it seems we are looking for a Mazda MX5 - 1.8i black, blue or white.

Anyone know of any good sources for 'genuine' cars - not fussy if its a Enos/Import. Just has to be mint and in great mechanical condition.

Any ideas ???

Ian, I went through the same "search for a respectable source" a few months back. Managed to get one locally as it turned out. Must say its a cracking little car!

Anyway, one guy who has a superb reputation has this website.

Try car supermarkets.

Millenium here in Nottingham have brand new MX5s (about 20 in the yard) with less than a mile on the clock since they were rolled off the transporter.

Not sure if you can buy black as a standard colour - I know in Spain you could only buy the special edition in black and in the UK the only black one I've ever seen was a Jasper Conran special edition. Loads of dark blues, silvers, steel blues, reds etc. But black with the black hood looks .

Drove a 1.8i yesterday at the dealers...not a sport - the chassis was a little bendy but I'm sure the sport resolves some of that.

They are doing sports brand new for 14995 right now instead of 17995 which is good.

Just have to sell the Punto Turbo and find another 10K now LOL.

Ian.

As for the hairdressers comment...

Have you ever seen an MX5 with the flying maita turbo conversion. It will eat a puny UK scooby for breakfast (and the drive will have more fun doing it too).

My girlfriends got the 1.8 Sport and its totally brilliant to take out for a spin.

Massive sideways action you can't get in a scoob (easily)

By the way, the sport still feels 'bendy' - but nothing that a strut brace and some other mods can't put right!

There's a cracking supercharger add-on available too which ups power and torque 40%

Aw !!! my old baby. *sob*

I miss her still to this day -she sure is a beaut.

If I had 14(ish)K burning a hole in my pocket I'd buy Pauls STI V Type R (as in the black or white thread) - Its like a bleached P1 but rawer still - lovely car. I hate to say it - that P1 is one of the nicest scoobs I know - I'm sure Matt is still taking good care of her (if you decide to sell in years to come let me know).

MX5 is fun - it think it would make a nice addition to the family car collection (we are - after all - a Pug 106 rally down now)

Ian,

Might be worth having a look in the for sale section on the MX5 Owners Club. www.mx5oc.co.uk
Always seems to be some nice examples for sale on there.
Also worth joining the MX5oc, there are very good insurance discounts through AON available to club members.

Cheers,

Rob

Rob,

I wouldn't mind seeing how yours turns out, I'm thinking of doing the same to mine.

Incidentally I hadn't heard much about the Flying Miata conversion recently so I did a quick Google on it, and the second result is entitled "inQueer.com: inQueer Gay Gift Guide: Gifts Ideas for Every ..."

These are useful links.
Definately go for a Eunos you get so much more for your money.
For example my Eunos 92k immaculate in silver was £3,800

Air con
Electric Windows
Plus these extras!
Chrome Roll bars
Supercharger
Intercooler
Very expensive lowering springs
Full exhaust
And loads of other engine work.

You would get none of the above on an MX5.

This thing kin flys. 110 in 4th gear! very quickly.
Have to say though that the subaru is still the car for me. Will get another at some point.

Best wishes
Steve
