My mate (who is not a scoobynet member has a P1 on order and has been offered £14750 for his 98R 21k miles. Should he accept or sell privately? It seems that dealers are asking £18k + for these cars!

I sold my MY97 with 20K on the clock (stolen recovered) to the dealer for a reasonable 15K (I had had the car from new @ £19.5K) The car had been repaired under the insurance and looked like new. This was about a month ago.

SGT in Taplow only last week said the book value of my car (Silver 4-door, MY98S, 38000 miles) was £14,495. Which means they would slap 3-4,000 grand on for the forecourt price.

This means is reality you could sell mine privately for around £16,000.

I reckon your would be similar in fact probably a bit more seen as yours has less mileage.

Regards
James

Anyone who is interested in a really good UK car, my friend Jeremy has a 98R (new shape and interior) with only 20K miles, leather and quick shift for sale. It still has over a year of Subaru warranty and assistance.

He was offered £14500 by his dealer on a P1 which is due soon but wants between £15000 and £15500.

I can vouch for this being an immaculate car. It is kept in a garage and hardly ever gets driven. He is nearly 50 so doesn't drive it hard at all. In fact I don't know why he persists with scoobys. The P1 will be his third.

For what its worth, you can email him on Jeremy1950@aol.com.

Tell him you heard it from Lee. I may get a commission or better still a drive in his P1.

15 to 15.5 for an R reg sounds a bargain if the condition is good. I would rather have that than a new Sport.
