A couple of months ago I installed IE 5.5, upgrading from IE5.
As soon as I had installed it it all went pear shaped!!!.
Due to this and other problems "Crashes, etc" I formated my hard drive and started again.

So the other day I installed IE 5.5 again, even though I was more than happy with version 5.

And the problems are here again.
It tends to be very lethargic when i click access IE, the dial-up connection box takes forever to come on to the screen.
It takes ages to find webpages, and I have to refresh the browser every couple of minutes, it's as if after a couple of minutes it refuses to acknowledge any links.

Has anybody else experienced this, and is there any remedies other than Updates from microsoft.

Or is it just me!!!.

Muddy.

I have experienced regular crashes since upgrading to 5.5 (use Win 2000). Never used to happen with v5. I now average at least one screen lock up a day using IE 5.5. Once again Microsoft cover themselves in glory with a 'new' product Can't comment on the dial-up box as I'm using ISDN.

Must admit, that it does seem to have got better. Can't remeber downloading any specific fix, just the usual updates from the MS update site. I suppose it is quite likely that they slipped a fix into the 'critical updates' without telling anyone.

Themost stable line of the IE5 series is 5.01. IE55 on W2K+updates is pretty good and is generally stable tho there are lots of issues in the IE55 internals that you'll never notice unless you desing enterprise solutions around W2K and IIS5.

IE55 on anything else is ****e, so stay with IE5.01 if you can until a known stable update comes out... IE6 ? larf larf

Thanks for your replies.
It has put me at ease alittle, I thought I was going bonkers.
Will stick with 5.5 for a couple of weeks and will install the critical updates, but if it still plays up I'll go back to v5.

Thanks again.

Muddy.
