So with RedHotAnt going under, does anyone know of any good 0800 Internet ISPs and rough costs?

 

AOL although not brilliant costs £14.99 per month, and 0800 access. Good thing is that they don't kick you off after an hour or 2, like some of the others I looked at!

 

BT have an 0800 service, weekends and 6pm to midnight. I've never been chucked off it, even though the blurb says you will be, it's only if you're not actually doing any surfing or whatever.

Oh, yeah it's £9.99 a month I think.

 

BT are just launching a 24/7 version for 14.99 per month as well.

I use the 9.99 version, and its ok, but Im a little unsure about the lag for online gaming after last weds UT session, so Im going to look into it.

I also have the BT Evening & weekends package. With a teenage son it ensures that my evenings and weekends are spent without interruptions from the phone!
However, he does report that he always gets cut off every 2 hours (usually downloading from Napster ).

 

I suppose I will have to put up with sh1tty lag. I do play online games, but obviously I don't want to pay for the dail up time.

Looked at AOL but don't want there cr@ppy software.

 

Other option is NTL, where you have to buy their little dialler box, and as long as you use £10 per month on voice calls (price rise to £15 in Feb) you won't have any other charges.

i use the BT free evenings and weekends for £10 a month.

get chucked off after 2 hours but apart from that its fine.

usually get good pings from my 56k modem.

One problem I've just remember with BT is that they don't support 56k speeds on older (i.e. non V90) modems, so they only connect at slower speeds.

 

Maybe I haven't been chucked off coz I'm on the ISDN connection and it's not so busy?

Funnily enough downloading doesn't seem to be considered "activity" presumably because no guff is being fired back down the line to indicate it's in use.

I personally, just use their software to dial up, and then I use MS IE (Internet Explorer) to take over all surfing requirements. I don't use the inbuilt browser because although they make it easy for first time users, it's cack for people like us!!!

Email is picked up from anotehr source, so it's no issue to me!!!

Email'd them, but they said it must be the line or modem. I emailed back my answer, and they didn't reply!! (Ever!!)

Tried others but they were rubbish, and BT weren't offering the 24/7 access then. Also at the time I was the £14.99 was for the 24/7 access, but would still need to pay £4.99/month for an ISP!!! Double check that, as they may have changed it since AOL went £14.99/month all in!!

Does anyone know when the BT 24/7 access offer starts? I had a look at their website and it just asked for details so that they could contact you when the offer started.

 

Andy Tang, sorry but I'm a recognised I.T dunce, how do I use Internet explorer with my AOL connection? Sounds like an ideal solution to me!

I just signed up today to BT Internet £10/month with free access evenings and weekends, so we'll see how it goes.

I've been with TFI (the free internet) for the last year and had lots of trouble getting a connection, usually give up after 20 or so tries, so it will be cancelled.

Use ntl at home - what a palaver - (including installation software with hidden click boxes). They seemed damn keen to grab all your telehone business, less keen to give you the internet access.

Anyway now we've got it most of the the time their DNS and POP3 server are down, or overloaded, or inaccessible for some other reason.

If it don't get better in a week or so we'll dump them

BTInternet aren't supporting 24/7 via surftime-anytime yet or in the future..

I use demon for 24/7 via the surftime package, costs quite a bit more tho, I've been connected since before xmas via my ISDN and have yet to be kicked off.

Demon assign you your own IP address, great if your want to host your own web/email site..

 

Has anyone mentioned the freeinternet.com service thats advertised on the tele?

£89.99 a year 24/7, I think thats £7.50/month.

Anyone tried it yet?
