How much did those bits cost you if you don't mind me asking...? Also where did you get them from...?

Am seriously considering KillerB's Oil Pan and maybe Pickup depending on the condition of ours, as they do look like extremely well designed/made pieces of kit.

Any thoughts on my previous question of a larger capacity sump helping the problem...?

Which sump are you talking about with regards to the Nurburgring team... EJ20 or EJ25

Also why are they a quart or more low by the end of the race...?

Would your sump fit onto a UK Impreza EJ20, providing the pickup spacers are used and the modification is made to the crank scraper/tray...? If so do you have a shipped cost...?

Right... so the usage is just down to piston ring clearance then.

Providing it fits the GC8 UK & JDM Import WRX's we have over here, and the EJ25 bits are easy enough to get hold of then I don't see why you would struggle to find a distributor... considering the next best thing (see earlier on in the thread) costs £460 ($750).

I will have to look into sourcing the other parts, and then I would be interested in trying one of your sumps, even if i'm the guinea pig so to speak... would you consider a refund if it wouldn't fit, providing I paid for the return shipping costs?

In that case, providing I can source the EJ25 bits... I think we have a deal.

Can you PM me your payment details (PayPal would be ideal if poss) and a final cost including shipping to the UK. Also could you include a price including your Oil Pickup pipe, not decided yet if we'll go with this but i'll try and drop the oil pan of our car and see what the original is like.

My apologies for not taking my request outside of the forum discussion...

I think that KillerB's posts were completely on topic, not to mention extremely informative. I personally don't think they were commercially advertising, as he was advocating the use of later Subaru parts as a solution to our problem more than his own.

Would be a shame to loose his input to the forum.

Damn right!
I bought all the EJ25 parts for my build on the information he supplied me with and not his parts.
Bloody good thread this

Steve, good pics showing how the baffle plate and pick-up fit..

Is it a self build, whats the spec and cost if you don't mind, PM if you like..

If you're referring to the studs that bolt turbo to up/down pipes then a main dealers probably best bet, otherwise one of the bigger specialists should carry them in stock ready to post..

No probs it's a self build but with my Subaru mechanic helping me out..
It's out of my 96 sti and I'm building it back up to standard BHP but with (fingers crossed) a bit more security against crank failure.

I got New genuine:-
Subaru Crank,
seals,
block bolts,
uprated bearings/shells,
water pump,
thermostat
uprated 10mm oil pump all from a user on this forum for £590.00 Which I think is a bargain
New genuine modine oil cooler £150.00
NPR piston rings £90.00
Replacement rods £40.00
Blue print Oil filter £8.00
Head gasket set £50.00
EJ25 sump, pick up, baffle plate, dipstick and tube £80.00
Maganetic sump plug £11.00
Total parts so far is £939.00

I need to pay my mechanic yet, get some semi synthetic oil and anti freeze then thats it until I drop the oil for a change after say 600 miles.

API Dave sells higher capacity 10mm pumps (Classic OEM ones are 9mm, I think?) for around £200 inc the VAT.

Even RCM's famous pump is around that sort of price (not sure if it's a 10mm rotor though?):-

They also do 11mm and 12mm ones:-

Talking of which, they also supply the turbo studs/nuts:-

Standard classic pumps are 10mm, 9mm pumps were on the normally aspirated engines.

Cheers Paul - couldn't remember (ZEN themsleves supply uprated Cosworth pumps and will obviously supply the studs/nuts too).

How much extra capacity is flowed in a uprtaed 11mm one, compared to the the OEM 10mm?

Surely the problem isn't the oil supply rate/flow/pressure (ie pump) it's the fact there's a chance the pick up will starve, sucking air and therefore dropping pressure for vital seconds..?

Increasing the flow of the oil pump is only going to exacerbate this..?!

It seems to me the logical/simple answer is greater oil capacity. The oil ways/galleries around the engine carry a finite amount of oil, therefore any extra oil capacity will keep the sump 'fuller' iyswim..?

However, my concern would be that these engines apparently don't like being overfilled, but is that still the case if a bigger sump is fitted, or just a problem if overfilling std sump..?

just a bit more fuel for the fire, lol..

So long as the pick-up is working totally okay, then a nice constant flow of uninterupted oil supply should be fine. That's why, presumably, uprated ones with their increased oil flow, are advocated.

But of course, the Achilles heel is the flaming pressure relief valve sticking, and the fact the mounting bolts work loose, also relieving pressure. But at least most of the uprated pumps do have a modified valve/housing too.
