Default Tramlining bad

On a 95 wrx wagon with 17s and 215/40s on the front....it's quite bad, there's plenty tread too, about 5-6mm....is it because it's 17s, if it is I'll look for 16s. I know I need to watch the profile when buggering with tyres though

Edit...apologies for double post, page froze again!

Meant to say, pressures are 30psi all round, tracking's fine, the backs are 225/40 and about 2-3mm

No need to answer, I either need 16s or different tyres on 17s, probably try for 16s though

You need to be careful as running different size tyres accross a diff (in this case the centre) will wind it up.

Oh ok...I've not long had it, I wasnt happy when I spotted it either, my old bm had that was that's rwd, but obviously not for awd

I found out it should be 205/50/16 all round so will look for other wheels

17's are fine on a classic. I have 18's for the road.

Not on mine they're not...tracking's fine too but on anything but a billiard board smoth rd, they're bad, if it's the tyres (cant remember the make) I'd need to get a diffirent make. I'd prefer more air though ie bigger profile

I would imagine that your problem lies with the rolling circumference being different.

Your front wheels have a smaller rolling circumference than your rears so the rears will be 'pushing' the car. Rather than a balanced drive. My guess is this is why the fronts are scrambling around.

You could try swapping the fronts to the rear to see what effect this has but you really need to sort the tyre sizes out soon or you may damage your centre diff.
