Question What Tyres do you run on your 17's?

As per the title really, but ALSO: I'm interested in your reasons for choosing that particular tyre.

I quite like the Bridgestone Potenzas on mine, but historically have a number of brands. My favorite all round has probably been Toyo Proxes for a long time, but I'm looking for any suggestions here, and the reasons behind it!

Ta!

Bridgstone RE070, As it was develpoed for my car, They have stiff sidewalls so reduce bodyroll and have good grip in all weathers and are very good on hot dry days ...apart from snow/ice where just about any normal road tyre would fail too

Toyo R1-R`s currently on the spare wheels for the more stickier driving days, Good grip in the wet/dry with the same compound as the R888...But less likely to kill you on a wet day

Toyo T1R are crap IMHO. The sidewall is so soft like a bubble gum. They don't suit heavy cars.

Vredestein ultrac sessanta - best of the lot IMO

Toyo I found crap, same with Avon.

Michelin PS2's were good, but my old MY05 at them inside 6K
RE070's I also found pretty good, but challenging in damp/greasy conditions

Goodyear eagle f1's on my bug wagon currently as they came with the Sti wheels I've fitted I really like them and they feel very sure footed to me. Might try the vredesteins when these need replacing. Had kuhmo ecstas previously and I liked them too although a fair bit of road noise from them. Its only a road car so I cant say what any of these are like on track.

Agreed, The T1R suits a clasic better than a newage,

These on the other hand are a different story

Some interesting stuff here.

I ran proxes on my 205GTi's and my XR3i.
My Astra GTE ran Avon, and they were tosh. My Vectra ran Kuhmo's most it's life, but I didn't drive it enough to get a good feel for them, and the torque steer in that car was unreal, so not a fair trial.

I am tempted to stick with the bridgestones, as they feel a good tyre, and it saves me swapping out all 4 tyres!! Lol.

Ran toyo t1r's for about 4 years, 215-45-17, found them pretty good to be fair in all conditions, they did wear very quickly though but id put a lot of that down to my driving entering/exiting private roundabouts.

Got a full newish set (about 400miles) of the Falken Fk453's in the same size, so far so good in all weathers, time will tell though, a lit of people rate them highly and at the moment im very pleased.

I am using Michelin Pilot Super Sports, not cheap but they are very very sticky!
I could get the rear end out when exiting roundabouts, not anymore!

Talking about tyres, on my classics i had all kind of medium range tyres, but would have never thought what an improvement is a proper tyre. Best handling mod you can do for your car, and i think that would also be the 1st mod you should do instead of chucking on ****ty cheap coilovers and other stuff...

Guys, what is the difference between Toyo T1R and R1R tyre ?
Which one is better on a Classic ?
ATM running Falkens FK452 and they are OK but was thinking to try something different without spending silly money for TOP range tyres.

R1rs are more track/dry tires I'd say, looking at the tread pattern

I think it really depends what you do with the car on how much you spend on rubber.

I don't go mental on the road, the car spends most of it's time pootling about or sat on the drive, on the odd occasion that I do go for a blast I kind of like that I can reach the limits of the tyre and get the car moving about underneath me in a controlled manner without doing silly speeds. I'm no racing driver and my blob will pretty much never see a track, if it ever does I won't be trying to break the track record or get involved with anyone else on the track, I'm the guy that looks for a big space in the traffic and get's it sideways So £600 on tyres is pointless for me as it will only take the fun out of driving.

I have Falken 452's on at the minute and they are perfect for my requirements decent in all weathers and wearing reasonably well, the last set cost around £73 a corner fitted, they also have a stiff enough side wall for the new age, but mine are 18's.

If you want a good all-round tyre for the road in a 17 the likes of Shaun run Goodyear F1 his car is in the very high 400's and gets driven, so I'd go with his choice.

cheeky edit,.
